why is RYL slower than other sites?

Everything about RYL V3 has been slower than other sites I frequent, its not a problem on my pc, thats fast enough to handle it but I often visit from my mobile phone and its really slow! it loads fast enough but browsing down any page is really bad, jumpy!

Any ideas?

Dont think its the size of the site, even some other big sites work fine. is each page unusually large or something?

I would understand the forums being a little slower but its more like the pages load millions of stuff in to the phone and it just cant keep up.

whats this v4 about? I still remember ruin...

Basically the bandwidth will be lower in a few months which will mean it'll be much better for mobile-users.

V4 is just an update, not a huge move like Ruin to V3 was.

I got that but do we have details? A mobile version is well well overdue... I remember quizzing the V2 then V3 updates as to if a mobile version was supported!

We don't really know much details. Harley's just mentioning it everywhere. Just an upgrade, remember.

V4 has more to do with vBulletin releasing V4 of the software more than it does anything RYL specific, so don't worry too much.

I don't have problems with RYL loading slowly, except the odd page here and there.

RYL is a very large site when it comes to the client-side code (this is what your web browser has to run) and so slow computers and/or mobile phones will struggle with this version.

V4 will be a major upgrade and, as previously mentioned, we are planning on offering a more mobile friendly version too, as part of this. Given the size and complexity of the site however, this is not going to be an easy proposition. We will also be working hard to reduce the physical size of the pages still further to improve loading times for those on slower or more unreliable internet connections.

Finally, just to say that you will see the best performance with RYL when using a browser which is quick at running Javascript. Apple's Safari v4 beta is the quickest out there at present and using this browser over a good internet connection, RYL absolutely flies.
