anxiety leading to cutting myself

I feel that the only way I can release my anxiety:

butterflys in my tummy,
racing heart/palpatations,
sweaty hands,
headaches,
difficulty breathing
etc etc

... is by cutting... and cutting more!

Am I alone?
I don't wish it upon anyone but I'd like to know that I'm not alone in this :ermm:

Hey,

Anxiety is a problem in itself if it happens to you alot. If it's happening alot and you're cutting because of it, you might need to go to the doctors to get it sorted out.

You're not alone at all hun. I also have/had problems with anxiety and cut because it helped me deal with it. But after a while I got rid of the anxiety by thinking what caused that anxiety and then sorted that out, so I no longer had the anxiety. :] *HUGS*

Take care xx

You are NOT alone....

Thank you so so so much for your replies, I am SO glad I'm not alone!
I am going to talk to my psychiatrist about my anxiety problems and tell him that it makes me feel the need to cut myself to releive the anxiety. I have suffered from severe OCD and was put on Sertraline which is used for anxiety in adolecsents but it doesn't at all seem to be helping. I'm 20 now was put on it when I was 16. I will write what I need to say down,

Love you guys *HUGS* xx

I was at a crafts store and saw one of those super simple stuffed dolls that you can dress up, sew buttons on whatever.
I bought one as a me-voodoo doll. It's small enough that I can carry it with me and when I get so anxious I hurt it. The destructive self talk that comes with the need to injure can be directed at it too.

I have bad anxiety problems, and I sometimes cut to help myself feel better. It's a poor coping mechinism, I know, but sometimes I don't know any other way to get relief.

What you're describing sounds like a panic attack (which can become panic disorder). What causes you to feel anxious? I have generalized anxiety, so I worry about practically anything and everything, as well as social phobia...Once you figure out what makes you worry, perhaps you can find better ways to cope with it.

Take care, and my PM box is always open.

Alyssa! Hello!

No, you're not alone. My anxiety used to have a really massive strong-hold on me, some of my worst self harm was due to anxiety. But now that I've worked on controlling my anxiety with CBT style thoughts, and rationalising the thoughts that make me anxious, I've found my anxiety has gone down. But then - that's aprt of recovery too, as as my confidence went up I was genuinely less anxious.

Hope you're okay!

Lyssie just wanted to let you know anxiety causes me to cut a lot too. But just remember tht just because lots of other people have the same problem it doesnt mean that it isn't bad, you need to get help with this.
Have you spoken to your psych about this yet?

Hope you are okay.

Same here. My cutting was written off as only depression before, but anxiety was always more of a direct cause for me. I'm the worst when I'm anxious, because I'm not so much in control. (I've got social anxiety)

So yeah, you aren't alone.

No of course not
*hug*
panic attacks trigger me worse than anything else.

Hm, maybe learning how to cope with the underlying issue could help the cutting
