Covering scars?

Okay, so I know all the usual ideas. But here's the situation:

I have this old dress I found out, it's down to my knees and quite tight. It is white with yellow and orange flowers. It's very summery.

Well I can't show my legs because they're really scarred and some of them are new enough to be really obvious. I was going to wear a pair of white jeans underneath but they're much too ... big? Well thick on the hips etc to wear with the dress because it is quite tight. The only pair of jeans that will fit are skinny jeans and they're a bluey purple and I don't think the colours work.

As far as tights go...I can't really think of any way I could make that work. Maybe some white almost wooly tights? [does anyone know what I mean?] but that's a bit wintery.

They don't suit 3/4 leggings type tights. I'm runnning out of ideas.

Nothing isn't an option.

Any ideas? I really want to wear the dress :(

Ta guys!

Added some pictures, sorry they aren't very good.

Ooh, that's a tricky one.
Today, I have seen pairs of yellow and orange tights [yes, really], so maybe that'd be worth looking in to? I'm not sure if you can get white thick tights - you can certainly get white footless tights, and I think that there was a pair of white tights in topshop, but they're unlikely to be thick. Well, then the yellow ones and orange ones may not be either - perhaps investigate?
How about leg warmers? Although, that seems like a bit of a long shot.
Bio oil them, and see how long it takes until you can wear it without anything? >_<
I'm really not sure, but I thought I'd write my thoughts down in some hope that'd it spark a memory of someones - or yours - and perhaps help somehow!
Good luuuuck! =]

Oh, plain [white] long socks?
[Town market's the place to go, methinks]

Wow, that dress is cool.

Skin coloured tights, a shade darker than you'd normally wear. I know you'll think, wtf? But my friend has pretty bad self harm scars on her legs and she wears skin coloured tights, I can barely see them and I know they're there - if you weren't looking you wouldn't be able to see.

I think part of it is confidence - our scars are a lot more visible to us than they are likely to be to anyone else. If you've got any friends who know about it, put some tights on with the dress and ask them if it's obvious or what-have-you.

Yeah, plain white socks (knee/thigh length obviously) sound like a good idea.
I always wear thick/wooly black tights to cover up but you're right it is a bit wintery. Although maybe thick white wouldn't seem wintery.
Any knee length boots?!
And scars will often seem more visible to you anyway so maybe just very tanned tights.

I agree- long white socks with cute little pumps could work.
The dress is really pretty, you look lovely, even without a head :)

inkyspider 13-04-2007 07:26 PM

Oh and P.S. You do look lovely and the dress is really nice.

Awh, that's a really pretty dress!
Everyone has suggested really good ideas. I'd try skin coloured tights, they go with anything.
Good luck!

white footless tights?

people are wearing them with eeeeverything

Try the skin coloured tights! It might hide your scars enough so others wont notice (remember that you'll always notice them more because you know they're there).

Alcohol Induced Altruism 16-04-2007 03:40 PM

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to have to go white tight/skin colour tight shopping! :]

Thanks a bunch, ee it isn't as hopeless as I thought xx

Skin coloured tights are the way to go, methinks. It's likely to get too hot for tights to be comfy this summer, though-so I'd suggest stockings. I wear them all the time, and they're much more comfortable.

You can buy suspender belts in various places on the high street (try M&S) but you might want to experiment with holdups-they annoy some and others are ok with them.

what about fishnet tights or stocking? i know they're holey and so you'd think would show scars but because they're so busy they actually hide your legs underneath quite well.

klo_flo 20-04-2007 03:19 PM

Speaking of stocking I got some really fantastic and nice suspenders from the Kelly Brook underwear range... You could get some from there =)

Someone mentioned primark, I sold plenty of orange tights, skin, white, etc. Maybe pick up some cheap ones to see what works then if you want some that might be a bit more comfy (cos I have a pair of tights from primark and they aren't too comfy!). Cause things like smock tops and tunics are in fashion you can get plenty of tights and leggins to go with them in most stores!

Hope you have fun shopping about to get something!

first of all that dress is brill and as for the scar covering you can actually buy thin coloured tights at most alternative clothes shopes anything from black to pink to stripped to white, why not looking online for ankle tights ... if you know what I mean ...
It is a gorge dress though.
Hope you find something
take care
