Pregnant?
I had unprotected sex last week.
And normally i should have started my period five days ago. But i still haven't got it. How long should i wait, to take a pregnancy test? |

Well if you take it now it's likely to be wrong. I'd wait a few more days or so (like till the 10th day) before you bother taking a pregnancy test. :)
|
Generally pregnancy tests are only about 70% accurate if you take them less then a week after your missed period, or if you take them before your period is even due. The accuracy increases the longer you wait. If you are concerned the best thing to do is to take a test now, if it is negative then wait 4-5 days and take a second one just to be sure. If the first or second one is positive then you need to make an appointment to get a blood test done.

Hopeless, have you had a period since you where discharged from hospital?
Your body may still be dealing with the shock of spending time in ICU, not to mention still recovering from your recent heart surgery. I would expect your periods to irregular for a few months until your body recovers. If you are concerned about this, it might be worth speaking to your GP, who can offer you better advice based on your medical history. Also I would just like to add, that you should be cautious with physical exertion such as sexual intercourse so soon after heart surgery. I am surprised your cardiology doctor or nurse has not advised against this at the present time, given your recent condtion. Take care Kim |
No, i haven't had a period since i'm discharged from hospital.
I'm just a bit worried now, well actually more then a bit, cause i had unprotected sex. I guess i just have to wait and see what happens. And probably a stupid question, but why shouldn't i have sex after an heart surgery? |
It takes a few moths for your heart to get it strength back.
I imagine you have a pretty big scar, which shouldnt be strained until its fully healed. Plus over exertion of the heart muscle so soon after surgery could cause complications. |
Well they haven't said anything to me, so i guess it is okay.
I'm just a bit scared of taking that damn pregnancy test now. |
i think the chances of you being preg might be likely.
you had sex right before your period was to start. &now, it's late. i took a preg test five days after my period was meant to start. it was a cheap one from the chemist. &it was accurate. |
Kim reminded me of something, the events that happened before you ended up in the hospital with your miscarriage could also be affecting your body. It is normal to miss a period or to have the timing of your cycle change after something like that.

Hey, Try not to get yourself too worked up. If you went to the doctors you can have a blood test from about two weeks AFTER you last had sex, They should be able to tell you if the hormone that is only present in pregnancy has been detected [Meaning you are pregnant].
If you would rather take a home pregnancy test get something like Clearblue.. Or something a little more expensive which can detect pregnancy at the earliest stages; But i would wait another week or so and keep testing every now and again until you have your period. Hope that helps. I'm in the same boat as you at the moment, I can't test for two weeks.. Feel free to PM me. x |
WOW i dont normally read the Firt Aid threads cus im not qualified but after reading all the terrible things that have happened with the major surgery and them nearly turning off your life support after you attempting to kill yourself i think its time you got a new consultant. As Kim said you will have a huge scar and your body will be still traumatised from all its been through.
I seriously suggest you contacting at least your GP and getting instruction on the kind of activities you should be partaking in. You must be amazingly strong physically to put yourself through such activities like sex so soon after hospitalisation. I guess you are one of the blessed ones being so tough. I mean after my uncle had heart surgery he wasnt allowed to climb stairs for a month or lift or anything and he never suffered half the trauma you have. Please take care! Matthew xxx |
*Nods* Yep that's all completely true.

Well i took a pregnancy test today, and it came up positive.
I'm not really sure if i should believe that, anyway, i will go to an doctor next week and will do a blood test, to know for sure. |
Umm Congratulations?
Home tests are usually correct. not sure if that is good or bad news to you. |
Im not sure i fyour pregnancy result was correct or not plus wether being pregnant i sgood or bad newas right now, but i can tell you that the liklyhood of becoming pregnant right after a miscarriage is very high. I have seen many patients that ave become pregnant right after a miscarriage because the body begins ovulating almost immediatly after a miscarriage. The bad news is that doctors usually do not recommend becoming pregnant again for at least 6 months after amiscarriage. I am also amazed that you were not told to avaoid any type of sex after a heart surgery or that they did not tell you to not have protected or unprotected sex for at least 6 weeks afetr your miscarriage. I hope that things turn out ok for you and that becoming pregnant again is ok with you. Please take good care of yourself and that beautiful and precious new life you are carrying inside of you. i wish i was asw lucky as you are right now with this pregnancy. CONGRATULATIONS!~!

Well i'm not really sure, if it's that important, but i noticed today, that i have a slight bleeding and my stomach hurts.
Should i be worried about that? |
it could be spotting and stomach pains during pregnancy are common.
it is extremely rare to have a false positive test. false negatives are the common ones. most 'false positives' are actually a very early miscarriage, so not truly false at all. go see your gp asap. your body needs as much help as possible to get better, especially if it's gonna be supporting another person. |
Actually, some brands of Pregnancy tests have been shown to have as high as a 30% false positive rate. (I can't remember which brands of the top of my head)
1. It is normal for your periods to be a bit wacky, to have your cycle be on a new schedule after a miscarriage. 2. It is possible that there is still enough of the "pregnancy hormone" in your system for a positive reading even if you are not pregnant. 3. If you are pregnant, a little bit of bleeding and some minor cramping is normal at the time of the embryo implantation in the uterine lining. 4. Due to your recent miscarriage and surgery you need to get a blood test done to confirm whether you are pregnant or not RIGHT AWAY. Even if it means going to a walk in clinic such as Planned Parenthood. Given all that has happened to your recently, your body may not be strong enough to handle a pregnancy so soon, and you really need to be under a specialists care if you are pregnant. 5. The medications you should be taking after your surgery may not be pregnancy safe, so as soon as you find out if you are pregnant or not, CALL YOUR HEART DOCTOR! Under no circumstances should you stop the medications without a direct order from your doctor! AD |
I am sorry to read this I really do hope things work out for you.
