Aftercare aswell as CPN for young people in hospitals
I have a CPN who I see once a week, ocupational therepy twice a week, the beacon centre (a social enviorment for people with mental illness) and a consultant that I see once a month and aswell as that different ongoing referals to different organisations for self harm.
On top of all of this my CPN has informed me that because I was sectioned for over 3 months when I was under 18, I also have to see another set of people that deal with aftercare for young people who have been in care (foster care, hospitals etc). Aparently I'll be assigned a key worker that has to follow up on me for 3 years but I've never heard of this sort of care ever! I've no idea what happens or what they can do for me. Has anyone ever experienced this aftercare and what it may consist of? Personally I beilve this is too much work for one week. My CPN is also looking me to get into some sort of part-time work im like ... Especially since I got off the phone to one of the girls from my adolesant ward who is recieving no help whatsoever, which is really unfair :ermm: I guess what I'm trying to get from this post is: Has anyone had this after-care aswell as ongoing help? and is it unfair for me to recieve so much help when others are getting none? is it selfish of me? :ermm: |
i haven't been sectioned, and so, my aftercare has never been as precise as that, but i have had good aftercare sometimes.
i don't think it's selfish of you at all. i think it's great that they're offering you a decent level of support, when it can be hard to get. i do think it's unfair that some people get lots of support whereas others get none, but this is the responsibility of the professionals - it is not yours. i'd say take what you're given and see if it works :) and if it doesn't, rethink. don't worry about the others, because this isn't your job. but if it concerns you, talk about it with your CPN. |
Hi Laura thanx for your reply.
Where you in CAMHS services also? I'm now in adult services and I belive that if I was in CAMHS still I wouldnt have half this support. What support do you have? I think it's really unfair because the girl from my old adolesant ward was also sectioned for over 3 months and yet she gets no help whatsoever and yet this aftercare team is compulsery for young people in care. I know I should be grateful for all the help but I think it's a bit much, like how am I meant to work part-time and even more so, go to uni in September? |
Wow! I have to admit that I have never got anything like that sort of aftercare, although I haven't been sectioned for that length of time (only on 72hour).
But, I was in foster care and never got an aftercare team. Try it and see how you feel. If it's too much, work out a plan with your CPN. September is months away, so don't worry about uni yet-a lot can change before then (for the better i hasten to add). |
