Is therapy free on the NHS?

Ok so I am supposed to be going into some sort of therapy, but I'm 19 but still in full time education. I have had a letter off my GP saying she has had a letter off thee MHS near where I live and is inviting me to go and discuss this, so I was wondering whether it could be about funding of some sort or would the treatment be free as I'm still in full time education?

It will be free. There are therapists contected to the hospitals etc in all areas. So whether you are in education or not you won't have to pay.

It will be free, yes. It doesn't matter if you are in education or not. You might be a bit limited in what your area offers and how long in therapy they'll give you, but that varies from place to place.

NHS = free.
Private =pay.

Works for most stuff ;)

It will most probably be free. Occasionally the NHS will refer to somewhere that offers supportive counselling charged on a sliding scale but I'm 99% sure that what you'll be offered will be free.

It's free. Your local Primary Care Trust will fund it for you, they pay the therapist on your behalf, basically.

okies thanks for all the replies now I'm wondering why the doctor would want to see me about it

Your doctor probably just wants to help prepare you for it, give you a little insight about what will happen and stuff so you'll feel more at ease when you go.

I hope so, I'm just scared she's going to say they wont accept me because I stopped going to my last one or something.

I doubt that'd be the case hun, quite a few people drop out of counselling only to start it again later. Perhaps last year you weren't in the right space to deal with therapy, but this year hopefully will be difficult, after all you've been really brave and shown that you want help by going to the doctors, they're not just going to turn you away.

Oh I don't know what to think anymore... I don't know what she's going to say or anything ...

You've just got to wait and see. Though I appreciate that's hard for you.
It might be that there's more than one option for referral, or it might be that she wants to complete the referral form with you present so you are happy with what she puts. It might even just to be to explain what happens next.
Try and keep positive *sends hugs*
