its funny how no one believes me.

Are you able to talk to someone who might take you more seriously? I'm sorry that people don't seem to be understanding your concerns. Take care.

Misunderstood. 25-12-2008 11:38 AM

They might not believe you because they don't understand it.
Personally I wouldn't be bothered about what anyone else thought. You know you aren't lying and that's the only thing that matters IMO..

I agree with Losthewaye. When people don't understand something, or are told something they can't get their head around, they tend to either totally avoid it or completely deny it. It's human nature apparently.

I think maybe discussing it with these people might help them to understand what you're going through as opposed to backing away from it and pretending it isn't happening.

To answer your question, yes. It is a very common problem, especially when it comes to matters of mental health. Mainly because it's still a very misunderstood problem. Most people don't ever come within miles of mental health issues until it is someone they love and care for, and then the first reaction they have is fear. Fear for you, for your health and sometimes for them. If you sit them down and calmly and rationally explain your problems with them, and perhaps tell them what you want/need from them, you may be surprised to find they react in a calm and rational manner. They might ask you some hard questions which you need to be prepared to answer or be safe in the knowledge that they won't mind if you decline from discussing certain things. Just be open and honest as much as you are able.

I wouldn't worry too much about not being believed.
You know you're telling the truth and I think that's what is most important.

Look after yourself,
Iz x
