Sertraline and Suicidalness
Hey guys. I was on Citalopram for a few months and it did nothing at all for me. I got moved to 50mg Sertraline (Lustral) and am now on 100mg. Things have seemed to pick up a lot.
My occasional bad moods have been extremely bad. I have been feeling more suicidal than ever. (Thank God not all of the time). My question is have any of you experienced increased feelings of suicidalness while on sertraline or is it just me?? Is this normal?? I'd appreciate any feedback thanks.. Zoe xxXX |
Hey, its not just you! I had a very similar experience and eventually came off it because my mood swings were so severe (tho this could be partly to do with undiag bipolar), but when i was low i was VERY low, it was just less frequent..
i'd say mention it to your doc because ultimately meds shouldnt be making you feel that suicidal. jen x |
hey.... Im sorry your feeling like this... have you talked to your gp/CPN/consultant about how your feeling?
Ive been on 150mg of sertraline for quite a while now but I havent found much difference in my mood neither good or bad... but then again im not sure which meds are doing their job and which ones are not because of the amount of meds im on so im not overly sure... sorry im not much use... *hugs* |
Thanks a million guys. I won't be talking to my psych until next week. Nowadays I'm very rarely in a bad mood (Thank god) but as Jen said my lows are VERY low...

this is worth mentioning to your psych...
although i know 100% what you mean... I get lows that are dreadful and walking up and washing is hard to do... (dirt bird i know) have you been given any official diagnosis if u dont mind me asking? |
I think it's definitely worth speaking to your psych about this, as it's a very real possibility that it could be to do with your medication.
A few years ago I was put on Citalopram and had a very bad reaction to it [in regards to suicide/self harm] so it's certainly not unheard of. I'm glad to hear that your lows occur less frequently though, that's great. xxx |
I suppose I'll have to tell her. I don't want to let things get even worse..
I have PTSD, OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and depression... i suppose all of those diagnoses are all interlinked though. x |
I felt awful on sertraline but it was pretty constant did feel more suicidal on them but i had no good effects

i was on 200mgs of sertraline for quite a while and it worked really well. but i didnt like some of the side effects and i went off of it cold turkey for a while, when i went back on, it made my moods worse.
when it helped i was a LOT better off on it, and sometimes i wonder why i was stupid enough to go off of it in the first place. but i still had lows, and in fact the first time i ended up in the hospital i was on zoloft. anti depressants arent a cure-all answer, they just take the edge off; but really that can do miracles. good luck!! |
I'm sorry that your meds are causing you to feel low. It's good that you have an appointment with your counselor to talk about your meds, and hopefully you can get things adjusted so you feel better. Unfortunately it can take a while to find the right med, good luck!
