mania or more energy? and is it better than depression?
I had a bad episode of depression (and had been having them), so my doctor added an anti-depressant (lexapro) to my seroquel & lithium. It has kinda thrown me into a manic stage. On the good side I have so much energy. I'm able to get up from bed much sooner. I have fun at work rather than just hating it. On the bad side, I've been way more irritable. I was up til 4 when I had to get up at 8 the next morning cause I couldn't sleep. I have trouble concentrating. I've been hyper. I've had more anxiety. I've had a lot of racing thoughts...
So I could tell my psych. But he'll just lower the dose or take it away. I can't decide if it's worth it. Surely it's better than wanting to die? I like the energy, but sometimes it can overwhelm me. And I know I'm more short w/ my boyfriend. So not sure what to do... |
I think you should tell the psych. xx

i also think you should tell your psych.
ultimately this med change was supposed to stabilise you and its not doing that. would you not prefer to try a med that might stabilise you instead? a short term gain of a bit of energy will not be worth the long term difficulties this will cause not only physically draining your body but also risking relationships around you if you keep being short with people. talk to your psych, tell them your concerns about coming off the drug, there may be an alternative. |
I would talk to your psych but also mention your concerns about how you would feel if the dose was lowered and you got very bad again. The meds are supposed to stabilise and although you have lots of energy etc at the minute these episodes dont last forever either.

yeah i don't have a psych appt til dec 26, but i mentioned it to my mom and bf. so hopefully they'll kinda help me out in realizing if i'm getting too out of control. there's times when i start to get a bit depressed, but 15-20 minutes later i'll completely switch moods in a matter of a split second. like i'll be so tired and bleh that i just want to sleep and then my bf will say something that makes me laugh or whatever and i instantly become hyper for a long time again. it's kinda weird. it's nice not cycling like before though, being depressed for 2-4 weeks than being manic for a week and then starting all over again with only a few normal periods in between.

Hey, I just wanted to let you know, that if you don't wanna tell your psych thats ok too.
I kept getting episodes of mania with my medication but, after a few weeks it settled down. Whats important is that your safe in both episodes of mania and episodes of depression. Look after yourself with whatever you decide. Leighxxx |
I guess as long as the manic episode isn't impacting on your life too badly, then you can wait to see your psych.
