What support do you have?
Didn't really know where to put this but please move it if necessary.
The purpose of this thread is to help people who don't know how to access some support know where to go to get some. So what support do you have for your SI and surrounding issues and how did you access it? I have a.... CAMHS Psychiatrist via my GP. School Nurse via school. Counsellor via school. Learning support assistants via school. GP via going to him myself. Connextions via CAMHS Psychiatrist. I think thats about it atm. Post away. Hope it helps people. x |
My best friend, I only told her 3 days ago, she's awesome and really defensive.
|
I have about three girly friends and my closest boy mate who i only recently told and RYL :D
|
Currently my support system includes RYL, my best friend Dan...and not much more. I hope to add a therapist of some sort to the list since I'll be going to college soon, but I'd have to find one that takes my mom's insurance and I'd have to clear it with her since she'd file the claims and what have you.
Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of friends and my family, but either they've just recently found out and have a hard tiem dealing with it or have been enablers which kinda defeats the purpose of trying to recover. |
Mine's more for surrounding issues -
My psychotherapist, who I see 3 times a week [privately, not NHS] My GP, who I see once a fortnight, or more frequently when things are tough. My assigned manager, and the Disabilities Coordinator at work. I also have my flatmates, work colleagues and online folks around. |
the girls at college there amazing
and everyone on ryl... |
My doctor..except shes away at the moment, my crest worker and RYL
|
My GP who I see around once a fortnight but once a week when my psychologist is away, she is amazing and allows me lots of time at the end of surgery.
My psychologist once a week. Psychiatrist when I get really bad. Supportive husband and a very funny teenage son RYL |
I first seeked help through the GP who referred me to CAMHS at the time. Through CAMHS I was then referred to an adolescent unit.
Now though, I have: CPN (CMHT) generally once a week, on occasions more and on occasions less. DBT (a therapy) which I go to twice a week. And my GP who tends to oversee my medication with the occasional input from my CPN or psychiatrist. I also have the support of the local psych ward which obviously isn't a first choice but my admission rate was so high I'm just a permanent inpatient and so can go in whenever - either through myself or through my CPN. |
i have gp
care worker thro cmht my 2 managers 2 x best friends (some of my best friends i dont talk to about this cos they freak too much) a few of my work colleagues and all you lovely peeps on here, esp amy, loz, shel, caz and shae-lynn to name just a few xx |
I'd love a CPN but they think I'm not mad enough. My Psychologist and GP do and are both frustrated that there is no one to support me when they are not available. I tend to turn to here for support then but I'd love to have someone to call.

i'm currently being assessed by the CMHT, referred by CAMHS after having turned 18. GP may be overseeing meds if i decide i want them.
a guy from Connexions, referred to them by the EIT after leaving school 3. a psychotherapist, privately, found through a friend. my family know, and also a few friends who found out when my sleeve slipped up but we never mention it. the head of sixth form also knows i have 'issues'. also used to talk sometimes to our parish priest if things were bad, but he's left now so i don't know how that leaves things. people i've seen in the past include: GP (forced to go by school number 1). CAMHS (forced to go by school 1 for a bit, later got involved again while at school 2) including at various times a counsellor, social worker and 4 different psychiatrists. also saw a CAMHS psychiatric nurse from the inpatient unit for a bit after deciding i wouldn't go inpatient after all. Early Intervention in psychosis Team (EIT) after leaving school 3, referred by CAMHS. lasted about 6 months because CAMHS couldn't bear to have me back. school nurses at school 2 and also a couple of teachers and the school GP. psychiatrist, privately, referred by family GP while at school 1, then later at school 2. DBT therapist, while at school 3, privately at first then payed for by the PCT. psychiatrist from CMHT for a second opinion after leaving school 3(referred by CAMHS who then ignored said opinion). |
I have ryl...and people on msn from here I LOVE YOU ALL!
Then another guy mate i met online :S but he's hardly ever online, but he is on here too :D i told him about ryl haha And another guy mate i met online..who has been there a LOT..sometimes he helps, sometimes he makes me worse :S and thats it..haha |
I have RYL which I found by chance through the FB causes application.
Two friends know and one knows I still do it but they haven't given any support. |
currently:
a CPN (once a week or sometimes a bit less, but i can phone her anytime. well, in working hours!) a psychiatrist (generally once a month but more at the moment. ) drop-in support from a day hospital (i can ring when i need to go in, which i try to use infrequently. ) psychologist (for CAT - once a week, but only for six months... argh... ) community support worker (once every 2-3 weeks, but support is being tapered off because... ) ... moved into supported housing (staffed 9am - 9pm. ) out-of-hours crisis service (staffed by Mind/social services, from 9pm - 1am. ) GP (rarely see her, i think i freak her out. ) Learning Support Worker at college. tutors at college, who are lovely. friends, but i don't tell them much at all. lovely mum, dad and lil bro. and of course RYL and my online journal, who are absolutely wonderful. got CPA next week though and i think some of that's gonna get reduced :S or at least discussed. it's taken me a long, long time to get that support. i've been through CAMHS for five and a half years, was referred there at 14 by my GP for self harming and support i received from them for the first three years was nowhere near enough. |
Me my parents.
3 of my friends A tutor (having to talk to her on monday yikes) A pscyholist once a week through my gp and of course you guys i woundnt got through the rough patches without you Thats all |
I have my friends on here.
My GP through being forced to go (though he's not too helpful) Counsellor through my GP (again, not too helpful). |
I Have All You Guys Who Are AMAZING
I dont have any "profeesional" help because im not sure if im depressed or got bipoloa or whether there is anyting wrong with me at all and im just attention seeking :( |
GP - he is absolutley fantastic. See him once a week, though at the moment he's away and not getting to see him for three weeks which is difficult... He always puts me as his last patient so he can spend more time with me, and I am also allowed to email him. I've never known a doctor like it.
Line Manager - She is very supportive, and knows the reasons behind my depression etc. She tries to see me once a week where possible, but is really really busy... She's also looking at trying to get funding at the moment to pay for therapy for me A uni tutor - We've become friends through this more than her being my tutor. She is brilliant, and spends an hour with me on a fortnightly basis, and is contactable outside uni time A couple of really close friends - They're really good and really supportive. I don't really talk to them about my self harm, but if I feel down they really try and help where they can I feel really lucky to have the support I have actually. |
