Care home?

Way just wondering if anyone is in or has lived in a care home for people with mental health problems. I was on the waiting list for high level supported living, but they've said they wont take me cos i'm too high risk. They don't think staying in hospital will help, and my mum wont look after me anymore. So... this place in a town where i live happens to have a space and they're coming to meet with me monday, though its mainly for people with autism, but caters for mental health too. I dont know anything more than that, apart from it has 7 residents. *scared* has anyone had any experiences of what they're like? Got any ideas of what i should ask them? I'm ultimately crap at meetings cos i just clam up and even if i want to say something i either forget it or cant say it!

I've been in supported accomodation but not quite the same as what you have been offered.
What sort of things would you like to find out about this accomodation? I guess important things might be -

- Rules they have there (ie, can you go out on your own/visitors/curfews)
- What would they expect from you? (They might not expect anything)
- Daily routine there (ie, is there therapy/group meetings/just free to do what you like)
- Meal times (Do you buy your own food or do they provide meals?)
- Amount of support you can expect from the staff
- Finances (Will you need to apply for housing benefit, etc?)

Maybe it would help you to write any questions you think of on a piece of paper so you can refer to that in the meeting,
good luck,

Sweetie, I've been in supported accommodation before too, but I didn't really have a choice in the matter (don't really want to say why). I found out everything I wanted to know on the first day, so I suppose you could ask them when they come to meet you?

I asked a series of questions, much like the ones xTinkerbelle said.
Basically, I just asked them about the rules, daily routine and the finances. They told me that I didn't need to do anything about my finances, as they were funded by the local council. They gave me £5 a day to buy food, which isn't very much considering I had to buy lunch and dinner. But I'm not complaining.

There will most likely be rules there, what time you have to come back in etc. I hope you're ok.
