Methylphenidate (Ritalin)
So my new psychiatrist put me on methylphenidate, the generic version of Ritalin, a few days ago. It's kinda weird that I'm just starting to take it now, at age 20, when it usually seems to be little kids who take it for ADHD. I'm taking it to help me concentrate on both schoolwork and everyday activities. So far, I love it! I'm so much more productive when I take it. But I was just wondering if any of you have taken it and what your experiences were/are, and if there is anything I should know. And a specific question, did any of you lose weight while taking it? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Well people with ADHD have methylphenidate to help them concentrate and calm down,so i guess thats why its helping you concentrate

I lost a bit of weight whilst on it, but the side effects were too severe so I was taking off.
I hope they are helping with your concentration and the other symptoms of ADHD. It helped me but as I said, side effects too severe. |
Ritalin is in effect weak speed, and one of the side-effects/effects is loss of appetite, so dont be too alarmed by that. its great that it works for you :D

It is good to see a positive medication post. Gives hope to us that are still hunting out the right ones. It sounds like it is doing what it is meant to - help maintain focus. I do not think it is purely for children, more that it is most well known for that useage, I have known some adults with ADHD, and they take it to help with their focus for work.
