Help for my course please!
Hey.
Basically for my course (Access to Health and Nursing) i have to do a project on a health subject. I chose to do about self harm in adults, i want to do it in over 30's but depending on how much info i get, i might lower it to over 24year olds. Firstly, does anyone know where i can find statistics/information about self harm in adults? Pretty much everything i've found has been on younger people. Secondly, would anyone mind answering some questions for me? There's 16 questions and you don't have to answer all of them or go into great detail if you don't want to. It'd be a huge help! Let me know here or PM me and i'll send you the survey, or email me if you don't want me to know your screen name. Anyone over 24 though please :) Thank you! Ali xox |
have you tried searching journals for self harm in adults?
|
Pm me. I can answer questions.
I'm 38. :) |

Ooh I can help, Unfortunately not all my results will help you but I have a favourites list FULL of suicide statistics from my last essay, will see if I have any links for you. MIND may have some useful statistics. I'll see what I can find....... I should be doing my own assignment, which is the fun of NMC code of conduct and accountability relating to practice in the Mental Health sector. Woot....

I've replied to your pm, Ali, and done the survey.
Give me a shout if you need to know anything else. |
I don't mean to sound cliche but a lot of information on self harm is centred around young people, you may find it hard to get supporting evidence for your essay.
Information fact sheet on understanding self harm: http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/B...+self-harm.htm youth and self-harm: http://www.samaritans.org/your_emoti...self-harm.aspx Again young people: http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/publi...EntryId5=38714 Self harm/self help: http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/publi...EntryId5=43586 A list of organisations that help support self-harmers: http://www.nshn.co.uk/resources.html Also try the World Health Organisation, the national office for statistics, erm not sure of what else my favourites page has craaaaaaassssshhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeedddddddd, hope those aid a little, I havent had time to read through them all x |

Thanks for all the links. Ali xox |
One avenue of more information might be in the context of abuse survivors.
The best thing about good research, which is what you're doing yourself, is that it's breaking new ground. :) |
Sorry dont have any links for you but would be happy to do your survey
Im 26 |
yeah Ali it is quite tough, it's good that you are getting some first hand evidence though, very different approach to it :-) Only ever did that in my psychology class x
|
if you still need some questions done feel free to pm me. not quite 30 yet but close lol.
|
If you still need it, PM me, I'm .......... 35!

I had a look but couldnt see much. women and adolescents seem to be the main focus.
However, have you tried http://scholar.google.co.uk/ thats a list of all the papers on the net. I had a quick glance and it looks pretty positive so defo worth a try. |
Thanks for that link!
Ali xox |
I will answer too *waves* im 26
I agree that most info is for young people. I'll have a look at my research notes to see if theres anything not yet mentioned on them *nods* Hence I was pissed off when i joined RYL that they called self harmers over 18 'VETERANS' lol. I was most indignant!! As a counsellor I found that VERY interesting to analyse !! lol |
Another one for the over 30's:whistling:....Consider yourself PMed.
|
I'll be happy to answer your survey too i'm 25, not quite 30 yet thank god lol!
