'Medication, no therapy' *triggering*

Why is it that I can be dosed up to my eyeballs on antidepressants, but whenever I ask to go back into therapy, I'm always rejected? I'm told I can have an extra 10/20mg a day, but when it comes to actually trying to sort the things out that are causing me to need meds, there's nothing for me.

It just aggravates me because I know that therapy would do me some good. Maybe I should tell my GP I've been thinking about killing myself again, that I panicked when I found a razorblade I had stashed, that I held it in my hand and it felt like I could finally let go of some of this pressure that's been building up.

After 16 months free, I don't want to be that way, but right now the urges seem almost too much to bear.

I think you need to be honest with your Doctor. If he doesnt know how bad you feel he cant help you.

Ask about a Crisis Home Treatment Team. They are a team that comes out to see you when your in a crisis. They organise what you need in your life at that time. Like better medication, monitoring etc.

I think it's a good idea to tell your doctor exactly how you've been feeling. Have they given you reasons for not allowing you to go to therapy? You say go back to therapy - did it help when you were there before?

Well done for 16 months free, that's a great achievement, try to remember how well you are doing *hug*

I think you are right that therapy would help,..alot. Sadly I think the reason they seem to be reluctant about it is nothing short of a money issue. Obviously I dont know for sure.
I'm not surprised it aggravates you. {hugs}
I think you should perhaps go to your GP and be totally honest about how things are and perhaps s/he will refer you on to a councillor or similar at least.

Thankyou for all of your responses. I used to be in therapy a while ago, but I don't think I used it effectively because I was so young. When I asked them earlier this year if I could have therapy, they said no because I hadn't been self harming and just told me to go back to my old councellor (who I didn't get on with at all).

I'm going to go to my GP and tell her that I don't feel any better, and see if she can arrange for me to get into therapy again and maybe change my medication slightly.

Thanks again, I appreciate all your help :)

I hope you manage to persuade your GP to refer you to someone. If you think it's going to help then it's worth giving it a go :)

DEMAND therapy!!!! Sometimes 'asking' isnt enough, sadly you need tofight so damned hard sometimes to get help that should be given freely.
Pls let us know what happens...and pls remember , you have achieved something wonderful, try to focus on that and be proud...IM VERY proud of you!!!

thinking of you
