Country specific slang?
Okay i'm just noticed that people who don't live in aus (and some who DO) don't know what I mean when i say someone is a Dag or daggy... Though it should have come to me earlier as I use to call my friend Hannah a daggy child and she didn't know what i meant at first... but yes. It got me to thinking what slang do YOU use that people don't get?
So for me it's Dag/gy - silly person (that about sums it up lol) I've noticed UK peoples saying that's... Well good or something like that. Using Well as really or something. So... yes. What do YOU use? |
When I first moved to Scotland everyone kept saying "what's the crack?" And I thought they were asking me if I had any crack cocaine!!!
Boy was my face red when I found out what it meant! Crack = news/gossip/what's going on etc |
Tormented, it was probably craic they were saying, not crack :)
|
Ned is an old favourite too, along with numpty (although that got me in trouble once).
|
What's it meeeeeean?
|
Ned? Or numpty?
A Ned is a Non Educated Delinquent, Scottish equivalent of a chav (almost). A numpty, well, generally means someone's an idiot, eejit, silly person etc.. |
i say people are dags meaning the same as you jess.
there is also a (quite rude) new zealand saying "rattle your dags" which means hurry up. you can look up why it's rude :p |
aussie slang and new zealand slang aren't all that different... aussie's are better though... heheheh
|
Dag's = Sheep bottom dreadlocks >.<
|
erin i wont ask how you know its a sheeps ass :p
|
Yeh Shona,
Don't know what you think but I've found Ned seems to be more East of Scotland saying whereas numpty seems to be more Glasgow or west of Scotland! Didn't realise it was Non Educated Delinquent mind (although i do like) |
