Advice for a friend please...

A friend of mine has been abused in the past and has little or no self confidence at all. She is a mother of a 2year old boy but currently in a bad relationship with a guy who tries to control her, she deals with all this by self harming.

Tonight she has just confessed to me her boyfriend has told her to go and kill herself and she is secretly longing to.

I don't live near her so I can't go see her in a flash but I've tried convincing her to see a doctor to no avail. She also believes despite my protests that the world including her son would be better off without her in it and that no-one cares for her.

Has anyone got any advice at all that I can pass onto her please?

I care so much for her and I hate to see her in so much pain.
I am a fellow manic depressive and self-harmer so I can relate to her normally but tonight, I just can't get through to her and it's breaking my heart.

Thank you.

I am sorry about your friend..

There is not a lot you can say to her... apart from saying you are there for her...

Remember its her choice... despite how much you care about her and stuff... if she feels its her only way out and that she refuses to go to the doctors... theres not much else you can do...

If you are really worried and you know her address.... you could perhaps phone the police... if you think she is unsafe to herself...

Thanks guys.

I do know her address and have offered to go down and be with her but its so far away and with this guy in tow he wouldn't be best pleased my turning up either.

I've suggested a refuge and even offered to find her a flat away from him but she won't leave. She has been brainwashed into thinking he's as good as she'll ever get and more than she deserves.

I don't think she's a full on danger to herself, but I think its coming and I just feel useless, that I can't do anything for her.

She isn't on any medication nor pysch as last time she went to the doctors, afew years ago, they laughed her out and said she was an attention seeker.

I feel sick with worry but haven't let on just how much as I don't want this to add to her pressure.

Is there nothing I can really do to help at all?
