Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
 

Has anyone successfully come off Carbamazepine? I've been taking it for 5 years in addition to Clomipramine and I've been mostly stable with that combination but it's come to light that the Carbamazepine will soften my bones over a long period of time which could lead to Osteoporosis so I need to come off it.

I've tried 4 times and each time I have become really violent (which was never there before the meds) and have had to go back on it.

The worrying thing is the Psychaitrist has no ideas what I should do next!

Just wondered if anyone here has had any expreience with this.

I'm in the process of coming off it,(and I'm also on clomipramine amonst other things coincidentally). I've not been on it that long (4-6 months ish). They've only made the decision to take me off it today, and I was on a tiny dose, which didn't do anything, so I don't have much experience or help, but I'll be here for you whilst we both come off it. They're replacing it with sodium valporate. It's another mood stabiliser, maybe you could ask your psychiatrist to speak to a consultant or talk to another one?

Thanks for that, I'll mention that to my Psych. I think it's a problem because I've been taking it for so long. Hopefully it'll be a lot easier for you.
