(slightly adult?) i might be pregnant - but i'm confused
i'm 22 (approaching 23) and i have a sinking feeling that that i could be preganant (again).
it was only a year ago i had an abortion and really to me it's still a raw. i don't really have anyone i can talk to, and its too early find out if i am or not (by early i mean really early, without being too graphic 'conception' was yesterday (21st june)) i know i don't want an abortion i just couldn't go through that again. but at the same time i can't thrust fatherhood on my boyfriend. he says he doesn't want me to go through that again and that he'll be there for me whatever i choose to do and we'll work it out together. but i just feel so guilty for the possiblity of wrecking his life and plans. i just don't know what to do. i suppose really there isn't much choice in the matter and really i could be making a mountin out of a mole hill, but i just don't know what i'd do if i was. i'm not really expecting any response to this thread, but it'd be nice to hear what people might do if it was them so i could get a clearer understanding of where i am. |
I've never been in your situation - but I wanted to reply anyway. =)
Why don't you go and get the morning after pill? That's ok to take until 72 hours after unprotected sex. If you can't do that, and ARE pregnant - abortion and keeping the baby aren't the only choices, there's also adoption. And many types of adoption too. Some where you can't see the child any more, some where you have a lot of access and talk to the adoptive parents and the like. I know it's hard, but try not to panic too much about this until you know for certain. *Hugs* |
Yeah, if it was yesterday then go and get the morning after pill.

if you had intercourse, you might not be pregnant yet anyway.
as mentioned above, the morning after pill is effective up to 72 hours after conception and can be got from your gp, on prescription, or over the counter which costs £22. if you cant see your gp.. you can obtain it from the following: -Medics at family planning clinics - if you need help in finding one, call the fpa on 020 7837 5432. -Doctors at youth advisory clinics or Brook advisory clinics for young people - details from Brook on 08000 185023. -Doctors at university/college health centres. -Medical officers at genitourinary medicine (STD) clinics. take care of yourself love and pm me if you want to. You may find it helpful to read the sticky at the top of this board called Information on sex & emergency contraception.
Also, whilst i don't want to come across as patronising, if you're sexually active you have to take on the responsibility and be aware that you could become pregnant; from what you've said about not wanting to have another termination if you were pregnant and that you're concerned about thrusting parenthood on your boyfriend, then possibly you need to consider - and weigh up - the risks of being sexually active if you're not trying to conceive. I realise that probably came across as harsh, but pregnancy is something not to lose sight of when you're sexually active. Not only that, but maybe this is time to reasses your current form of contraception and consider something longterm such as the implant, IUD or IUS, all of which can last three years or longer and during that time you don't have to think about taking pills everday etc. |
we use condoms normally but it was a random spontanteus (sp) thing that happened so quick and i know it's no excuse, but it really did catch me off guard. i don't take the pill since i get very ill when i do and it leads to lots of complecations so i'd rather not have the hassle of going through that again. usually i'm very aware of what we're doing and make sure we have protection, but usually it's for him not me. i personally feel there's no point in having a child if only one of you wants it.

but surely.
taking the morning after pill would be better than having an ABORTION, when it comes down to it. i mean, its prob a risk you dont wanna take. if not. you can get that clamp thing they do after 72 hours, which isn't that pleasant, but at least you won't get pregnant. i think. esp. if youve had an abortion [recently]. you should be doing everything/anything in your power to avoid having another. |
I'm sorry for what you went for last year and that u r still finding it hard. Get emergency contraception, just to be on the safe side, but remember, there's only really one point in the month that u can get pregnant, i think it is like days of the month. But like i and everyone else has said, morning after pill is your best option.
