Butterfly Baindaids?

I am just wondering how to make a butterfly bandage? I have a cut that is gaping, it looks like it could use a stich or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If it's too deep i'd just go get it stiched, it's for the best really, as for butterfly bandaids i've never used them, but please, take care of it, and yourself, lots of hugs xxx.

I am terrified of hospitals. I hate the way they look at you. I am just going to put butterfly baindaid on it..and that it..otherwise whatever..it can stay open.

If you check down the list of threads, i was in a VERY similar situation to you, i didn't go for 3 days, and it got infected, i wish i went straight away, it'd be hypocritical for me to say it's got to be done, as i know how hard it is, just take care of the wound if you absolutley CANNOT go, keep it clean, first sign of infection please go to the doctors/hospital. I went to an out of hours surgery, so i didn't have to see anyone i knew or would see again. Take care xxx

I got the butterfly bandaid..I have it on..hopefully that will work. I will clean it regularly, anything to avoid a hospital. Anyways I feel a lil nausious, so I am going to lie down. Thanks for the advice.

If your feeling ill, you should probably have been checkedout.
However, for fture refernce, here are the instructions for making your own butterfly strips. (these will be going up on the main site shortly.

How to make butterfly stitches

Butterfly bandages are best for closing a long cut.Use an adhesive strip (such as Band-Aid) to provide continuous pressure. Always put an adhesive strip across a cut rather than lengthwise. A butterfly bandage (made at home or purchased) can help hold cut skin edges together:
    • Using a clean scissors, cut a strip from a roll of 1-inch adhesive tape and fold it sticky side out. Cut notches into the tape as shown in illustration A above.
    • Unfold the tape; then fold the notched pieces together, sticky side in as in illustration B above. The center of the tape will not be sticky. Keep the part that will be over the cut clean.
    • Place one end of the tape on the skin. Then pull the other end to close the wound tightly as in illustration C above.
    • If the cut is long, use more than one bandage.
  • Apply a clean bandage at least once a day, or when the old bandage gets wet or dirty.

Should you let the bleeding stop before applying a butterfly bandage or is it ok for it to still be bleeding when applied?

Starburst 20-06-2007 09:32 PM

Erm I've had them applied when I was still bleeding to stop the bleeding.

Guardian angel 20-06-2007 10:19 PM

It is ok either way, you can apply them after a wound has stopped bleeding or to help stop bleeding but it is better that you have the bleeding under the control first .

Thank you.
