DVLA Appeals

I know I don't post hear much (and don't know why though :satisfied: ) but I thought this was the best place to put it.

I lost my driving license back in October last year for a year after having an Epileptic fit and as I had another fit in Novemeber I can't get my licence back until Novemebr of this year. However, as I haven't had a fit since and all my recent tests have shown that I have no abormalities in my brain waves which would be the cause of another fit I was thinking about getting my license back in September instead. This would be VERY useful for me as it means I could get it back for when I go back to uni as my campus isn't in a town or anything and I can't walk the distance to get there and stuff. I was just wondering if anyone here has gone through the appeals system to get their license back early, what it is like, and how you go about doing it (I've just looked at their website (for the 2nd time) and found nothing about it).

Thanks,
Kim

Ask your doctor?

I dont think you can get it back early, the rules are that you have to be free from fits for a year. I suffer from fits myself which is why i cant get a license. You might be able to get a free bus pass from you local council. I did and it makes going out a lot easier.

Yeah, I've got a bus pass which is handy but I know of several people that have got it back early and because my walking is poor and where college is (with no buses coming within a mile or so of it!) I really could do with it. I'll just ask my neurologist when I see him (if my appointment ever comes through!).

Thanks,
Kim

if you send in another app for a licence, they'll review it that way,i have a time limited licence, currently standing at a year then re-assess,i had mine revoked, and was told by the dvla, that until i was stable and hospital free for a significant amount of time,i wouldnt get my licence back.
i got pee'd off not having it,so sent another dl app off,the dvla wrote to all my dr's and gave me the licence back early-even though i didnt meet the previously set out criteria.

i guess what im saying is,you have nothing to lose by applying for another licence, becuase its the info they get off your dr's,then the dvla dr's that decide, and you might get lucky.
PLUS it takes forever to get a result back(it took them 4 months to decide about mine),so you might as well apply now,it might take till novemeber to get it back anyway.
xx

I might try that then, I'm going into town tomorrow so I can pick up a form. I know my neurologist has said that he thinks I'm very unlikely to have a fit again and my GPs have said similar things and that it was just because of the extremes I was under at the time so hopefully I can get it back early and Mid-september is only like 7weeks early anyway and I'm not too fussed about not having it before then

I hope you manage to get it sorted. You are lucky. There is no way i can get mine back for at least 18 months

Thanks, I forgot to get a form when I was in town today. I had a pretty rubbish counselling session and it completely slipped my mind. I might wait until I see my neurologist and see what he wants to do with me first/ if he wants to mess around with my meds (which I'm not keen on in case it ends up that I start fitting again).
