What would you do?

Hey guys, just want some adivce about something. Got my degree results recently, which were ok, but i was very close to the next grade. Not close enough for being automatically put up to the next grade, but very close to that. I spoke to a friend and he thought i could appeal, so i rang my uni advice centre, that said i couldn't really appeal, unless i felt i had reasons for appeal. The woman on the phone asked me if there was anything i could think about that may have hindered my performance at uni in the last year, eg had i been ill with flu, had a relative been sick, or some other personal issue. And the truth is, yes thing's have happened, and i wasn't at my best for a good portion of the last academic year. There is no diagnosis on my medical record, just a few incidents when i have had to be treated in hospital, or that i have seen my GP.
I have spoken to a couple of people, and they think it is worth writing a letter of appeal, asking for my grade to be reconsidered and put up to the next classification, but i'm not sure. It could mean the difference between getting on a good teaching course and not doing so, but it feels...somewhat cheap. To write a letter to a bunch of strangers saying what has happened to me and how i have felt over the last year.
Just wanted some general thoughts from you guys.
Much love.

i guess it depends how much getting the higher grade means to you, if its bothering u this much then it is probly worth appealing, but thats only a decision you can make...it does sounds like things affected ur results, and that is very good grounds for appeal, so dont feel cheap or guilty if u do decide to appeal
if u want anything pm me anytime
take care

I guess it's down to what you feel is the best to do. If you feel like this past year has hindered your chance then i don't see why not. Either way it's down to you. What have you got to lose?
Take care,
Chloe. xx

If you hadn't mentioned the teaching course, then I would have said to leave it. I honestly think that the reality is that feeling low can stop you performing at your best - it's not a 'cheap excuse.' It is a valid reason - had you been physically ill then I doubt that you would be in two minds about writing the letter. If there is a chance that it will help your future, then I think it's probably the right thing to do.
Good luck

No one is going to think that you are trying to worm your way in, I felt the same way failing college, but i had a chat with my councellor and she helped me construct a letter to appeal my grades. No one looked down on me, the teachers who recieved the letter/s all understood and took my grades under re-consideration.
Have a chat to the woman on the phone, or who ever is appropriate and tell them a bit about whats been happening for you.
ask if there is anything you could do for extra credit ect.
Hope I've helped a bit, ciao

You don't have anything to lose writing that letter.
