my friend: seeing things/ hearing things.
Ok, I'm writing this following a conversation with a friend of mine a few days back. We're quite close, and so tell each other a lot, however, the other day he told me than he's been experiencing hallucinations, she didn't give much detail, only said that they were often disturbing, and didn't want to say any more because he doesn't want it to start happening around me. He told me that he sometimes ends up having to do things because of them, sometimes this is good stuff, sometimes it's bad. I don't really know much about it, because well, it's happening to someone else, so all I can really write is that it's been happening, and, I don't know what I should be doing to help. He currently isn't seeing anyone about it, and I'm worried that it'll just get worse if he doesn't get help.
I don't really know what I should be doing, should I be trying to push him towards getting some help, or is it not my place to tell him to go and see someone about it? |
i think you should perhaps suggest he speaks to someone professional about this. halucinations and delusions can very easily take over your life and it can make everything seem like a living hell.
i know, im there. |
Your friend is so brave for telling you this and you are stunning for being supportive :)
I see hallucinations all the time, got worse by the time, it's disturbing, annoying, sometimes it can be dangerous cause i don't have clear vision to cross the street or do anything that needs careful concentration.I think your friend should not drive if he has hallucinations. I believe that he should tell a doctor,it is treatable, with the right medication it will be cured, they may get worse or take other forms that may be frightening like seeing faces,blood,arms,... These hallucinations may be a cause for another disorder; schizophrenia or bipolar disorder type 2. Take care xxx |
ok, thanks for your advice everyone. He told that he's had them most of his life, and judging from what's been said its already reached the stage of things being frightening. I just don't want to push him away in trying to get him to get some help for it, because then I'd be of no help at all, which kind of defeats the point. I'll try my best anyway.

be there and listen to what your friend has to say.
explain that you understand and want to help. offer to acompnay him to an appointment to get some suport and advice. dont be too pressuring though or else you could end up pushing your friend away x |
He needs help, really. I have schizophrenia and I know what it is like. I'm fighting atm. I'm on this site now to try and distract myself. You need to get him to see someone. Believe me, I've been put on police holding powers because of my illness.

bipolar
You dont get hallucenations in bipolar type 2.
Bipolar 1 you get mania, depression, (some have mixed episodes like myself),delusions and seeing and hearing things. (In some people) Bipolar 2 you get depression, hypomania (not as bad as a full manic episode) |
