Self harm books
I'm looking for a good book on self harm that is geared for recovery and not too full of indepth phsyc stuff. Practical stuff like. So I can be more aware of the lead up and manage to distract myself etc. But without the hard head stuff.
Any ideas or reccomendations? |
bright red scream by marilee strong is supposed to be quite good, ive read extracts of it online :
Written by a US journalist, this book is based on a series of interviews with people aged 15-53 who describe in detail how and why they self-harm. The theory behind people’s behaviour is clearly explained without using a lot of technical jargon. |
I also say A Bright Red Scream and also The Scarred Soul-Understanding and Ending Self Inflicted Violence by Tracy Alderman

Life after self harm [I don't know the author as I can't locate it on my shelves right now...]

From victim to victor is one i'm working on at the minute. I'm not sure who the author is.
Bits of it are indepth but I havent seen the whole book yet lol |
there is a book that i have read some of but not all of it, it is about someone who cuts and her like story and all.
its called a skin game i think. yeah it is skin game by Caroline Kettlewell. not sure if it will be what you want but she does talk about her recovery (i think) or i would imagine so. i haven't read the whole thing, but what i read was pretty good. i just don't read very much. ha |

A Bright Red Scream my Marilee Strong is pretty good (I'm still reading it), and I heard good things about the book Cutting, which is geared more towards recovery.
