some help please.
ok so recently someone on ryl manage to convice me to tell my mum about the depression etc.
and yesterday I finally worked up the courage to do and it, and I did. I only told her that I was feeling really down. And she's agreed to come to the doctors with me. The thing is, my GP is ALWAYS booked, and what if when I finally get the appointment I can't actually tell the doctor. I dunno I get really paranoid that they'll think I'm just making it up, and won't take me seriously. My proper worry is what if I don't like the counsellor they give me? (if they do) then I'm compltely screwed. I don't think my parents will pay for a private one, so I'm just so stuck. I just feel so proud of myself to have worked up the courage, because if I didn't I would have just ended it all this summer, but idk. If the doctors fail, where else are counsellors avaliable? <33 |
Congrats on taking the first step to get help. You are indeed, brave. If you don't like the therapist they give you, there are others that they can send you to. You're usually not just limited to one.

thank you :)

if you dont feel like you can talk, it may help to write everything down beforhand. And like someone else said if you dont like the counceller you can ask to see someone else.
Good luck |
ooh writing it out is a good idea. i like it a lot actually.
thanks :) |
I deffinatly agree with writing it down - thats what i always do.
All the councillors i'v seen have been lovely but i did worry that same as you are doing - its only natural. If you find you dont like them i would say go back to your Dr/ ring them and chat explain you dont feel comfy for whatever reason and see what they say. My dr specified i only get seen my women so it is possible. and well done |
I agree with writing it down. I struggle to say what I'm really feeling/want and find that writing it down is so much easier.

councillors
Well as you asked heres everything i could come up with.
One, if you mention to doctors your thoughts about what you would have done this summer im sure they will take you seriously an two Caouncilling is avaliable after a wait on the NHS but i got mine through a local charity "Coundon Care" but unless your in cov thats useless, but there are probly some in your area. If not i think the samartians can put you onto some tho. :D |
I dont know about London, But in most places they have government or free health care. The waiting times are usually not great, but it is worth the try. Keep in mind, If you get a councellor who you dont feel comfortable with or you would like someone else, NO ONE is going to be offended if you say to the manager or triage team or whoever is in charge that although you have no personal problems with your councellor you feel that he/she is not the one for you and you would like to see someone else. This happens ALL THE TIME, and no one is going to be angry or judgemental, least of all people in the mental health spectrum.
Dont be afraid to get that support, I know it is terrifying at first, I know that going for that first appoitment is hard, but once you have gone a few times you will start to look forward to your visits and you will definitely start to feel better. I hope it all goes well for you Stay safe. |
thank you all, i'm taking in all the advice :)

Mind is a charity, and they run counselling sessions, drop in centers and workshops for people with depression. You can search for a center near you and they're really helpful, I've done volunteer work with them so I know how good they can be. Good luck with the doctors too =) |
:o
thank you for that!! *hug* |
