Docs?!

(ive posted this on another board but thought this is more appropriate)

Hey i'm newish hear, well i've had an account 4 a while but never had the courage to write anything i just read!

Ok so went to the docs today 4 something completly unrelated to my ED or SI & she saw the cuts and asked whether i cut and i said yes 4 some reason...well it was a little obv no point lying, ive never told anyone b4 & i can't believe she found out, ggrrrrr but anyway my step mum was their so now she knows and my life iz over!!

But the thing that relieved me and puzzled me the most iz that the doc didn't care, she didn't mention anymore about it, she didn't ask me if i wanted/needed help, had a whole lecture off my step mother tho, but i've "promised" to stop....if only it waz that easy!!

It was just wierd that the doc just didn't care and she also looked really dissapointed in me & disgusted even tho i've never seen her b4, she was foreign & i thnk shes new in our local docs, now tho if i ever want help i just feel like the professtionals will all b the same & not want to know!

sorry about the rant guys just had to get it off my chest

Anyone else ever experienced this??

they won't all be the same, if you want help, you could ask to see a different doctor when you make the appointment. she probably just hadn't really coem across SH before. lots of professionals are very nice and helpful

as waiting in the dark said they arent all like that. im sure if you saw someone else about it they would be concerned and caring and help you in any way they could.

There is quite a lot of misinformation regarding self harm that even the medical professionals believe in. Not all the doctors are like that though. It could be that she didn't feel it was her place to discuss the self harm since you were visiting for a different reason.

I've had something similar happen, only the doctor saw the scars and didn't ask or say anything to me about it other than "Are you taking anti-depressants?"

She may not have known what to do.. It might not have been disgust but she probably didnt really know how to react. If you want some help you could probably ask to see a different doc....

no... some of them are like that... find a good one to get you referred to CAMHS... noticed you're in gloucestershire. I am too. The Stroud CAMHS team are really good, especially their psyc. PM me if you want more info/just to chat
