go into word so something similar and use wizard c.v application helped me

Lie...but lie well.
Don't say you can do something if you can't. That'd be silly.

Talk about skills, interests, hobbies, qualifications, past work experiences. Obviously don't go overboard and say something you can't do but try and dress it up a bit and 'exaggerate'.

my brother's cv said he was a self-taught pianist, and that he was a "keen photographer" and that he knew four languages fluently, and other bullshit.
i don't understanddd why he put that rubbish in.

But did he get the job, Linda? haha.

Dont put anything negative! iguess thats kind of obvious. Also when you put jobs, i put on my CV what skills i gained from that job. Put that you are good with customers, and put how bubbly you are. Also mention that you are punctual and focused.

Don't lie - you'll be caught out otherwise (and rightly so).

But do be positive about what you've achieved so far and what your talents are, so that they'll realise what you've got to offer.

Don't be negative. Those viewing CVs will be only too happy to dismiss yours if you give them the chance.

Basic template for a CV:


CONTACT INFORMATION
Name
Address
Telephone
Email PERSONAL INFORMATION
Date of Birth.
National insurance number.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
List in chronological order, include position details and dates
Work History
EDUCATION
Include dates
Secondary school/college
University.
QUALIFICATIONS
A level/GCSE results.
Computer qualifications etc.

Talk about yourself:
Why you would be good at the job.-good at working in a team/by yourself, have good leader skills etc. INTERESTS

I like writing CVs hehe.

I used to do recruitment for the company I currently work for I would have C.V's coming out of my ears and you would immeadiately go in the no bin if you did any of the following:

Spelling or grammar mistakes - I don't care how bad mine are if you don't check you are being lazy!
If I can't read it I won't - make sure it is set out, nicely easy to read and looks good on first impression.
Present facts as they stand don't waffle on for hours about a summer job you did once 20 years ago.

Make sure that all your contact details are correct and easy to find preferably at the top!

Things that helped you go in the yes pile:

Well presented easily readable and obviously geared for the job you are applying for - a covering letter is also a big plus.

Do it in chronological order - with your last job first and so on.

Dont tell me what you should have done but what you did - e.g. if I got a cv which had a paragraph echoing the job description I would be less inclined to read it then if I had a cv with bullet points telling me what they did and what they learnt from it.

If you post what you have here I'm happy to look over it for you - I'm sure others will help as well

You dont have to put your date of birth on them anymore as its classified as age discrimination... when your going for a job and you put your date of birth on there they might only take you on if you are old enough to have had experience. but these days you dont need to...

If you have more qualifications than work experience then you can put your qualifications first, well after your personal profile.

I did a pdp course last week and was shown how to do a profesional C.V

I think maybe you need a little bit more structure and information.

Can't add much to what has already been said except to stress that in the job market your CV is hugely important - a firm looking to fill a post is not going to waste time agonising about the deeper you and your possible motivations. For them, life is too short.

You've got to tell them just why they should employ you and your CV is, initially, the only way you can convince them of that.

I strongly recommend you take very careful note of what has been posted by random.swirls. She's obviously been much involved in the past and knows what decides those doing the initial trawl whether to "bin it or retain it". If you don't even get past that initial trawl then forget it. And, depending on the job, I would take particular care over the spelling, literacy and presentation of your CV - it represents you and your standards - and, if you want the job, you've got to impress and not come across as sloppy and careless and ill-educated!

The only thing I'd add to that is, if you are applying for a specific job, have a look at what interests and things they are requesting, and make sure you have them in.

I guess what I'm trying to say is apply your cv to the specific job you desire.

Saying that, if you are just doing a general cv, ignore everything I've said =]
