when you're depressed, what helps you - things that people say...
Recently I've been pondering over what it helps me to hear when I'm distressed, depressed, anxious, fragile....
I'll start. ~ My flatmate explaining to her 18 month old son that I'm feeling fragile and tired at the moment - when she was asking him to stop banging the table at dinner last night. I was touched by that, and also by the tender way the little one said 'Katie fragile'. I find that people's choice of words can make a lot of difference. What helps you? |
Once after a really bad night my friend texted me saying "I hope the world seems a better place today"
That really mean't a lot, just those words, I dont know why,but it felt special. |
I find when my doctor uses words like "bla bla bla ..you have depression" helps because i know i have an illness then, and im not just "feeling a bit down".. if that makes any sense at all?
take care hun, i hope you're feeling better then xx |
a teacher at my old school said to me "no, this isn't alright, it is a big deal" because she saw the cuts on my arm and i said it wasn't a big deal. that made me cry, but kind of in a good way.

I got intoxicated and was on edge and I was talking to my friend and after I had hung up to try to sleep it off (she had talked me down, such a good friend) she texted me with "No one is trying to forget you. I know the world seems like an unfriendly place right now, but just wait for it, it'll catch up" and it made me cry the next morning. She can be so sweet sometimes.

my little brother will sit with me and ask why im crying or why i have cuts on my arms, then he always says you have that black cloud over your head again but i will make it go away and bring the sun out.
i think that is so sweet. |
its not really a phrase that helps me : say if I watch a movie it has to be inspritanla(sp) and that really pushes me and tells me you can do it and stand above all. Example Raise your Voice
|
when my little girl asked me why i go to the gym every night, i told her it helps me feel better. she asked me "when will you feel better, mommy?" it hurt me to say "i don't know" but her concern for me touched my heart.

someone giving you a hug and holding you real tight for a long time. and they say things like "it's ok" or "chin up" because for that moment no matter how long or short, you believe it and the way they made you feel stays with you
|
Reading these touch me even though they havnt been said to me!
I cant think of one at the moment... |
When i'm having a bad night and i'm on the edge and vulnerable, my friend texts me and says 'hang in there sunshine, do it for me' and that just makes me feel a bit more human. It just shows that she cares, and that she's thinking of me.

"i love you"
