Clomipramine? for self harm?

I'm in hospital now, and they are talking about putting me on Clomipramine
Because I explained to them, that all I can think about 24 hours a day is SI . I explained that it's like a full blown obsession. I explained that I don't even enjoy it anymore but I just have to do it, to make the thoughts in my head stop (because I think about it so often I can't concentrate).

And now they're talking about putting me on this drug (which is given to people with OCD apparantly?)
Anybody have any experinces of this drug?
Also, can SI be obessive compulsive behaviour?
I mean it started off as a coping mechanism type thing, but now it seems to have changed to an obsession, or is it both?

Anybody have any info on this?

Clomipramine is an anti-depressant as well as being proscribed for OCD. My dr gave me it for depression and SI, it was actually ok. Helped me to sleep at night, reduced my urges to self-harm (I used to not be able to think of anything until I did it, I could practically see every cut I wanted to make, the blood, the blade, and couldn't think until I did it), which were both positive effects.

On the minus side, it made me always hungry, even after I've eaten a load, it's like my hunger scale just doesn't work. Also the sleep effect seems to have worn off now (like 5 weeks) so I don't sleep too good again.

The side effects for me are very insignificant compared to some medications I've taken, which is very good. But remember that everyone's different.

It's the only thing that has helped my OCD. What you describe sounds a lot like the OCD cycle, whether you have OCD or not regardless, your symptoms fit the sort of thing that clomipramine should help with. :)

Side effects wise, I got a bit of dry mouth at first and some constipation when I was on a too higher dose.

It hasn't helped with my self harm or sleep, but it has really helped with my OCD.

Hmm, they've changed there minds,
They're gonna up the Mirtazapine that I'm on....I guess they know for the best whats going to work :-)
So, fingers crossed, the Mirtazapine seemed to really work for the first few weeks, but less and less as It went on, so maybe this could be what I need? (still dunno if it's going to help with the obessive thoughts or pychosis, but they said that it would so....)

Clomipramine is what they put my dog on. It works well for him! :)
