Nose piercing

I got my nose pierced 2 months ago and i think its infected.its red and it hurts like hell.what should i do?i dont want to tell my mom.

Is there any way you could go back to see the person that pierced it to see what they suggest? Other than that it may be a good idea to keep cleaning it like you will have been advised to and see your doctor if it gets any worse or prolongs. DON'T take it out because then you will trap the infection (if it is infected rather than just irritated) in.

i had my nose done... it gets like that some times... start cleaning it with salt water... if that doesnt work change the stud.... may help.... if that doesnt work then take it out and let it heal and get it re-pierced another time... nose piercings are a pain as they never heal tbh.... so clean it alot .. use alot of salt.... should help PM me if it dont help

omg.its red and swollen!!and it hurts so much.

Heidi Tiger 26-02-2008 09:06 PM

I had a really bad infection in my septum so I know how nasty it is.
Salt water for now, but don't make it too strong or it will irritate it.
If you can get hold of some teatreee, using one drop a day might clear up the infection.
Otherwise just obvious precautions, try not to play with it, wash your hands before touching it.
Contacting your piercer really would be the best advice though.

i have put salt water, 3 hours ago but its still the same.i can't go to the place i got it pierced, because its too far away.how long does this last??

Heidi Tiger 26-02-2008 09:14 PM

It's gonna depend, there's no set answer. But it should go down when it's ready as long as you look after it right.

if i look after it right, will it get worse??will i need antibiotics??

Heidi Tiger 26-02-2008 09:21 PM

It might get worse before it gets better, who knows. I've never heard of anyone needing antibiotics from a piercing infection before. But just keep an eye on it. If things get bad, go to the doctor, it's much better to risk the wrath of your mother short term than to compromise your health long term.

the best thing to do is go back to the piercer - they are trained and licensed in piercings and aftercare
my nose piercing got infected a couple of months after it was done and my piercer told me to use an oral antiseptic to clean it, just dab on it on the inside and outside two to three times a day. the one he recommended for me was GlyOxide which they sell at pharmacies here in the usa (don't know if you have it in your area), but you should ask your piercer what he recommends for you.

i don't know.i will probably go there if it doesn't get better.

my mom saw it.she will probably take me to a doctor tomorrow!

Ehe, how did you manage to hide it from her until now? I mean... it's not like a tongue piercing that you can hide, it was your nose :P

It's good you're going to a doctor :)

what happened to me was that i had to put a white gold stud in there to keep it from getting irritated. this went on for a year before i realized what the problem was. try that, you might be allergic to the cheap metal they use. (i'm assuming, it's cheap stuff here in the states)

chocostashchick 27-02-2008 04:35 AM

after i used the glyoxide to clear it up, i actually had to change to a gold stud as well because it was still red and irritated with the steel one they gave me. you may want to check into that as well!

Kittyne 27-02-2008 10:48 AM

acensh. over here if you go to a proper piercer they pierce with Titanium. which is great.

my nose got infected too. i got penicilin and went back to using titanium jewlerry

blondiebear 27-02-2008 05:36 PM

In steel there may be nickel which is what people are allergic to.

when i got it pierced, i changed the piercing in half an hour after it was pierced!!!i don't know what it is.I didn't go to the doctor because it was better today.I cleaned it and now it has a little blood, but its ok.my mom went to the chemist and asked some things and he told her that if its still red and swollen after a few days i will have to take antibiotics.

i was hiding my nose with my hand, but my mom got suspicious!!when she found out, she didn't say anything!!

today it hurts less.my biology teacher who knows about infections told me to put a cream but i don't remember what exactly.but its better.its only red and not so much swollen.i hope it doesn't get worse!!

TheOnlyOne 27-02-2008 10:06 PM

Is there any puss?
Clean it vigorously. Change your jewelery often and clean the ones you're not wearing. If it doesn't get better, and only use this as a last resort, because it dries out the skin - apply hand sanitizer to it. It will sting really bad but the infection will go away fast. After that, you'll need to moisturize it. But only do that if it's really bad.

Also, as other people said, only wear titanium or surgical steel jewelry. Acryllic or cheap metal will irritate your nose.
