thinking about wearing short sleeves
 

I'm thinking about going to school in short sleeves when it gets warm out but I'm afraid of what people might say/think about my scars. i have them all over my arms has anyone else went to school with their scars showing? Any advice on how to handle the comments/questions?

Yeah, i go to school with short sleeves. i have a jumper but i push the sleeves up. i have a wristband as well. if your worried i suggest you try it. ive found no one comments if its only scars. you shouldnt be asked too much, but if they do, tell them it was the cat or your neighbour's cat or something? only tell them the truth if you can really trust them

only one problem a have a word on my arm from a while back and i can't say a cat wrote it.....................I'm kinda scared because thats what will give it away

so do i, hun. i have sorry carved into my wrist. how much has it faded? coz no1 notices mine.

weird thats what i have but it's down my arm. it's kinda pinkish. not red anymore.

hey, I just wanted to tell you don't be embarrased of your scars. It is what you have been through and nothing to be depressed or embarrased over. I wear short sleeves and shorts now and I"m not ashamed. Maybe I should be because they are very large scars (severe self harm) but I'm 2 months free and I"m very proud. I went swimming with scars and jogging with scars they don't say anything but I've had people ask about my arms since i'm in short sleeves more often than shorts. All I say is I'm a recovering self harmer. That usually ends it but if it doesn't I just say I'd rather not talk about it. It works and its honest. Good luck.

I've been wearing short sleeves for a few months now. At first I was worried what people would say, but I found that people...don't mention it.

I haven't had one comment on scars or even half-healed cuts. I'm starting to think that if they did, I'd just tell the truth. I think having them out in the open has given me more confidence and less embarrassment about my scars.

the only time i've worn short sleeves --- well recently anyway when the scars havent faded --- i had to wear copius amounts of foundation on my arm!

I used to put foundation on my arms! but I accept my scars, 'cause they are part of me, and will be forever, I don't care what other people say, I tell them its pen (lol) but its just 'cause I get scared at the time. People know I do it and no-one really mentions it which is wierd 'cause I thought they would...

Im thinking about the same, last year was just too frickin hot...But im not sure if Im up for it.

2 years ago when I only got a few really faint scars I wore Short sleeves and never thought anyone would notice, but severeal people commented it O_o And now its like 20 times worse, so im not sure if i dare try again x]

I'm in dance, So I have to wear stuff without sleeves all the time. Only two people have asked thus far. One knew what I did so I just told them "Nothing you haven't seen before," The other, I just looked at it with the same expression she did and said "Huh... Wierd... I dunno..." We shrugged and that was that.

I collect watches though. So I wear them all the time over my scars. No one can ever see them then...

I've been wearing short sleeves with my friends recently and not one of them has said a single thing. It has been amazing!
I too have a word scar, and no one's noticed that either.
It depends on what situation you're in though, I still don't wear short sleeves in lectures or anything.

I never wore short sleeves when I went to school, but I stopped self harming on my arms 5 years ago and ever since I have worn short sleeves. I was scared when I went to uni that people would ask questions but in the two and a half years I've been here not one person has said a thing.
Last summer I even wore a bikini for the first time and no one said anything about the ugly scars on my thigh.
I'd say if you want to wear short sleeves go for it, but you should be prepared for people making comments. If you really don't want an issue to be made out of it at school i'd stick to long sleeves.

this really helps a lot i think i might not wear them to school but i think i might in the summer with friends it's good to know other people's thoughts. thanks for the encouragement. I wore short sleeves all the time with pretty much faded ones but i was worried about these newer ones it will be easier also because my family knows.

i had to take swim class and the teacher made me come to her office after class. she said "i need to know whats going on with your arm" i said "it was a problem.i dealt with it.theres nothing to worry about." and she said "ok thats all i needed" and no one ever said a thing about it again.i think telling the truth but not telling your whole story works pretty well.i have never known anyone to be made fun of for it so i wouldnt worry.if theyre just scars and not anything new dont worry.if you dont freak out usually no one else will.

hehe i love it when people ask me about them... i often dont wear my ridiculous amount of wristbands around randoms just to get a reaction... gives me a chance to practise my death stares and smartass comebacks.. for instance: when someone asks you, give them your most serious, sombre look and say "the teapots..." and nod really slowly
