I come from a state populated by idiots...

With 10% of precincts reporting, 10% of the votes so far have been for a guy who dropped out of the race over a week ago.

lmao.
championnns.

Ktc178 06-02-2008 06:20 AM

Sorry, I don't know you, but I wanted to comment on your post.

Don't feel too alone. In my precinct caucus, there were five people who voted for someone who dropped out almost three weeks ago now, two people who voted for someone out for over a week, and a vote marked from someone from the wrong part. All of this was out of only something slightly over 200 votes. honestly, kind of sad!

~invisible~girl~ 06-02-2008 06:29 AM

lol, yeah, people are idiots... we're now up to 16% reporting, and the guy who dropped out still has 10% of the vote...

risenfromperdition 06-02-2008 06:33 AM

impressive... well 54% of my state voted for hilary clinton so..
*rolls eyes*

risenfromperdition 06-02-2008 06:36 AM

*edit* not saying hilary clinton is bad, just dont like her. [/plea to not get in trouble for talking bout politics (y)]

Ktc178 06-02-2008 06:42 AM

agreed. i'm not sure who of ya'll went to vote, but where i'm from, it was crazy. it was absolutely packed, and people who didn't get there early had to stand in line for hours. i don't understand the idea of going through the trouble of even going if you're going to cast a ballot that won't even count. does that make any sense?

risenfromperdition 06-02-2008 06:46 AM

i woulda voted, but didnt get my stuff for an absentee ballot in time. but im deff voting in nov. silly being away at uni/complicatedness!

Hermy9 06-02-2008 06:53 AM

Hey at least people are starting to take an interest in voting. I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote (and are somewhat informed I should say), otherwise, what's the point of having the right to vote?

Ktc178 06-02-2008 07:11 AM

i actually agree that the ability to vote for whomever you please is one of the great things about having that right in the first place, but what i find troubling is that external efficacy is so low in the United States that people would rather vote for someone who is out of the race than the people remaining. i actually never said that people shouldn't have the right to vote for candidates who have withdrawn. i only said that it seemed like a lot of trouble for limited benefit.

~invisible~girl~ 06-02-2008 07:14 AM

What I find most troubling is I think that the majority of people who voted for people who have dropped out of the race did so because they didn't realize that person had dropped out...

butterfly525 06-02-2008 07:18 AM

Emily, may I ask which state you live in?

Hermy9 06-02-2008 07:19 AM

Hence having to be informed in order to vote is very important.

I agree that people are just idiots if they are voting for a person who is no longer in the race. They are really just throwing their vote away and shouldn't bother if that's the case.

Ktc178 06-02-2008 07:22 AM

yes, very true. something that encouraged me, though, was that at least where i'm from, there was a really high turn-out, which at least means that more people care again. also, there has been a lot of media coverage of the election already, which is stimulating people to think about the idea of voting.

butterfly525 06-02-2008 07:22 AM

Yeah I agree with Hermy9. Especially if the reason is that they didn't realize the candidate had dropped out- if they are that uninformed about the election and the candidates, they really shouldn't be voting.

*pouts because I don't get to vote until next week*

Hermy9 06-02-2008 07:27 AM

Media coverage can be tricky at the same time, expecialy for young voters who are trying to decide what they agree with. I try not to watch or read one news source for too long. I think it's important to see how different people are covering the issues. I've fallen into the trap of just listening to one source, and man, did I feel dumb in my high school government class when drilled on the issues a few years back. Oops!

Hermy9 06-02-2008 07:28 AM

And did I just spell that expecialy?? So much for being informed. Foot is going in mouth now. So sorry...

~invisible~girl~ 06-02-2008 07:37 AM

California. And with 25% reporting, we're now down to only 9% for the guy who dropped out.

Yes, people are idiots... And I need to stop talking now as my other reasons for thinking that aren't quite as safe as voting for someone who's no longer running...

butterfly525 06-02-2008 07:43 AM

Haha actually cnn.com is showing that Californians are voting for TWO candidates who dropped out- Edwards and Giulani- so apparently stupidity does not discrimate according to political party.

~invisible~girl~ 06-02-2008 07:45 AM

True - I haven't being paying much attention to the Republican primary cause it's not nearly as close, and therefore not particularly interesting.
