Any cooking fans out there?
So I'm planning on making some chocolate mousse, I'm using the recipe out of Joy, I've done it several times already so I don't really have a problem with that. However this time I've been thinking about adding some amaretto to the mix, I love the flavour and have had it in chocolate before.
My question is how much to add, the recipe is for Rum Chocolate Mousse, although you can't really taste much of the rum in the end, and makes 8 - 10 servings. Another site suggests adding a teaspoon of "flavored liqueur" to the whipped cream (which is then added to all the other ingredients), so I might go with that. Does anyone else here have any experience with this? I'd ask in the substance abuse forum but not everbody has my sense of humour about things like that. |
Yum, chocolate mousse.

My mother is trying to get me into cooking, and i do occasionally cook to help out. And I'm...alright but, JESUS cooking is boring!
Dicky! |
I dont tend to make sweet things, but yea, you probably dont want to add too much so perhaps a teaspoon would do, at most a tablespoon, you dont want it to over power it.

make a little tester mixture first! that way u can add as much as u think u need and be able to taste it................the best bit lol.

Also it depends on how strong you want the amaretto to be.
I.e. some people love spicy food to be really hot other's less so. Start of small the first time you make it and go from there! |
I can never be arsed to cook. I'm so lazy.

I do cook... just not very welll... :P

Taste test after putting a small amount in, and if you think it's too mild add a little more to taste. Generally for that portion size, about a teaspoon for a mild flavour sounds about right, you could up it to 2 tsps-ish if you want a stronger flavour.
Amaretto is yum, and you could garnish your mousse with some toasted flaked almonds on top too, to really bring that almond-y flavour out. :) btw- I have a cookery blog, www.crueltyfreekitchen.blogspot.com |
Wow, thank you everybody for your replies. I'll post afterwards, not sure when I'll have time to make it though :( *mutter* stupid work stuff *mutter*
Toasted almond flakes sound interesting, I'll be sure to check out your blog. And I couldn't agree with you more Abstract :) |
I'd do iot by replacing a certain quantity of the rum with the amaretto, and varying how much you replace by how strong you want it to be...

Oooh..I cook! Like, loads of stuff. Sweet and savoury.
Man I haven't made cookies in ages. Thanks for reminding me. |
