Psychiatrist-- I'm scared :S

Recently my mom found out I was a cutter...
and the reaction (obviously) wasn't that good.
She kept being a b*tch about it. She definately doesn't understand in the least why I'm doing this.. and I don't feel like telling her.
She once even asked me if it was satanistic ritual, which was reaaaalllly reallly funny once you think of it but at the time it just made me sadder.

Back to the subject then :)
She made me an appointment with a psychiatrist somewhere in the begginig of Febuary, I can't remember the date, will post later when I remember. She will also be seeing the psychiatrist, just to talk about me the day before I talk with him/her.
I'm really scared of this appointment :S I on't know how to act.
I don't want to take meds... will they prescribe any? I hope not

Ughhhh just so worried, I'm sorry.

ps-- I hope I posted in the right category on the forums

Hey hun, I am sorry your mum has reacted so badly. To be honest my mum reacted quite similarly and dragged me to a psychiatrist....although she didn't think it was a satanic ritual :S

It is understandable to be worried about a psychiatrist appointment the first time but they are not actually as bad as you imagine they will be. They will ask you a load of questions about how you are feeling, whether you are eating/sleeping ok, hear voices, etc etc etc. I doubt you will be put on meds after the first time you see him/her. Mine didn't, in fact it has only been my GP who suggested meds (and this was 3 years after the first time I saw a psych). Also remember they can't make you take anything you don't want to. If you have questions about anything to do with treatment don't be afraid to ask them.

You don't have to Act in anyway. Just go in and be you. Tell them your problems, they will probably take the lead, at least to start with so you don't need to worry.

I hope it goes ok, let us know xxx

Does the psychiatrist tell my parents things about me and what I'm telling him?

Depends how old you are - usually not, well, not unless they have huge concerns for you safety. For example, mentioning that you would like to terminally injure yourself or that you think you would take great enjoyment from stringing someone up by their necks and setting fire to them and plan on doing it :P

But just be yourself, you might find that conversations with him/her are very helpful :)
