I read it a few years ago. I thought it was good. Might dig it out and read it again actually.

If you are looking for information its a good book. If you are looking to read a story I wouldnt recommend it.

More for someone to get a better understanding-someone who suffers and their supporters

True. I found the book very informative but there are other books out there too, it just depends on what you are looking to read up on exactly, like if you want a self help guide, information, memoir, story, etc. I think its a good book if you want to understand it better, so is Bodily Harm.

I've read it. I thought it was well written. I learned a lot and could relate to a lot of it as well. In fact one of the treatment programs I went to was mentioned in it, and that is how I came to know of the treatment program. [S.A.F.E. (Self Abuse Finally Ends) Alternatives]

I also recommend 'Bodily Harm' by Karen Conterio and Wendy Lader (co-founders of S.A.F.E. Alternatives). It is very informative, it includes case studies of self-injurers, and types of treatment..there is even a chapter for 'what therapists should know'.

I want to also recommend 'Cutting' by Steven Levenkron. Taken from the back cover: "Cutting takes the reader through the psychological experience of the person who seeks relief from mental anguish in self-inflicted pain...Written for self-mutilators, parents, friends, and therapists, this book explains why the disorder manifests in self-harming behaviors..."

There are many books out there that are very informative.

I just read "Cutting" and found it to be very well written and it is obvious that the man knows what he is doing and understands. It's written for parents, therapists, and self-injurers. I've been wanting to read this one (A bright red scream) for a couple of years now but haven't been able to order it. It's definitely something I plan to read, as soon as I can get it. I also want to read "The luckiest gilr in the world" which is also by Steven Levenkron (Cutting) but it's a novel about a self-injurer (fiction).
