Is It True That Cornwall Has It's Own Flag?
Just wondering if this is indeed true.. I would have thought not what with it being in England and all.. My mum is Cornish but she doesn't even know..
Any insight to this would help my confusion.. Merry Christmas to all |
I dont know, but it is possible. In medieval/ early modern times, the people in Cornwall thought they were their own country! When Henry VII came along and made them pay taxes they got annoyed and rebelled cos they thought they werent from England! Hehe! So its possible! (sorry... history geek :D)

yup its true, in fact the cornish like to think themselves a separate country

Cormwall suposedly wants to have its own parliament like scotland or wales, probably more like scotland though.

Every county within England has its own flag... Just Cornwall shows its flag more what with wanting independence and all that.

Yeah they reckon they can be self sufficiant...
This is a picture I took when I was in Padstow - Rick Stein has encouraged the tourists by opening a restaurant - now they hate him, even though tourism is what brings in the money  The ironic thing is that it's the graffiti 'killing' the area! ![]() |
I live in Cornwall.
I hate it. Yes, it thinks it should be independent. The funny thing is that Cornwall is about 10 years behind the rest of the country. I heard that the difference between men and women's pay is more severe too. Not sure if it's true. x |
10 years? thats a bit too close you mean like 25 years?
|
hey, i live in cornwall too, ive been here for all my life and it sucks. the flag means nothing really although we happen to celebrate on the 5th march for the patron staint of cornwall, which I dont really see the point of anymore although i shouldnt moan as its my birthday the same day, but for now on cornwall has the day off work/school/college to repersent the meaning of it lol

My Dad used to have a massive Cornish/Kernow flag on a flagpole in our back garden for years!
In the end, it got too expensive, and he couldn't find ones big enough or lasted for long enough for it to be worth it. The flagpole's still there, and it was how we used to spot our house when we were little. Oh, and we have a flag on our car, or at least, it was there last time I bothered to take any notice. He's a very proud Cornishman, but we don't live in Cornwall. x |
