Ed recovery and hunger signals
I?m in ed recovery and I never feel hungry, it?s like I?m immune to hunger signals. Is this normal? Will there come a time when I do feel hungry? I wonder if I?d have a better relationship with food if I physically felt hungry?

it isn't abnormal but that doesn't mean it is something everyone experiences either. for some folks it is something that can come back once you are eating enough often enough. but it won't for everyone. was always told it could take months to a year or more of eating regularly to come back. definitely would be worth mentioning to a medical human and/or dietician if you have one just to check and make sure there is nothing wrong that is causing it, and to make sure you are definitely eating enough. none of us can really say what is normal or okay for you but your own medical humans who know you could.
in personal experience it is not a thing that ever did come back for us - but it wasn't ever much of a thing for us pre-ed either. think that is also something to do with being neurodivergent too, as we aren't as aware of our body's signals as other humans. why do you think it would be better if you felt hunger? what would that do for you? could be something worth exploring. |

I think if I felt hungry I could ?justify? eating but if I?m not hungry it?s like I?m eating for the sake of it and it makes it that bit harder I hope I?m making sense! |
it makes sense, but it's still disordered thinking. you are a living being and that means your body requires fuel (i.e. food) to function regardless of if you physically feel hunger or not. doesn't really sound like your relationship with food would be better if hunger cues were occurring.
