"Say Here" thread
 

So. The time has come when I think we (mainly me lol) might possibly all be well-behaved enough to have the Say Here thread back open?????

For people who joined in the last 6 years or so - this was a classic thread where you could go and just post whatever was on your mind: " Say here what you can't say to someone/Get something off your chest". So sort of like a mini-rant thread without having to make a whole thread.

It was pretty prolific back then in that thread though and some of us were incapable of behaving despite many warnings so it was understandably closed!

So this is basically a thread to bitch about other RYL members? I don't see this getting out of hand at all...

If it can be about anyone then I'd just use my r/v tbh, whether it's good or bad things to say.

It’s not a place to bitch about other members - it got locked because that’s what people were doing, but I think as the forum has got older, so has the demographic of its users and it certainly feels a lot like people have got over the stage in their lives where misusing the thread would feel helpful - I don’t think there are many active members who would want to bitch about each other? It’s also quiet enough now that it could be properly monitored.

I quite liked it as a short form alternative to an RV thread - I think sometimes it’s preferable to dedicating an RV post entirely to posting a little irritated/sad message to someone who will never read it? Does that make any sense? I know that I do post such RVs, but if the thread was reopened I’d feel comfortable posting them there.

Oh no, not at all! It was closed because people were posting about other members (at the same time people were doing so in their RVs as well!) which is against the rules everywhere! In my opinion I highly doubt it would be misused these days. Most of the regulars are gone now and I for one am capable of following the rules now (one would hope so given I’m a mod!). Of course I totally respect that you don’t think we can be trusted and certainly will take ‘no’ votes into account before deciding.

But it wouldn't be private to the general internet people like R/V is?

I don't know if I would use it (forgive me if it goes ahead and I do use it.) but I'd prefer just to use my R/V. I'm not against it if it's going to be useful to other people though.

^no it wouldn't be hidden but none of the support threads in Serious are either, I guess it comes down to how much identifying information is put into public boards and that's a matter of personal responsibility tbh.

Also, my view of it is that when I joined RYL it was partly because I kind of 'stumbled across it' - that's not happening as much any more. If people are browsing RYL they've probably deliberately searched it out and it's no secret that certain boards are hidden from non members. Making an account takes about a minute - RVs aren't particularly private either.

I don't know how much I would use it, but I think if it'd be helpful to people there's no harm in trying it out and seeing how it goes.
