'Going for coffee' - srs bsns poll
Right so my friend literally lost his mind when I said 'going for coffee' when I personally don't drink coffee and would have a hot chocolate. I tried to explain that it's just an expression but he continued to pull a face that would frankly be more suited to if I'd just killed his cat. Now I'm doubting myself!
|
P.S. I haven't made votes public so no one feels obligated to agree with the scary dictator-mod (although please do feel obligated to also vote for MOAR LESBIANZZ as it's only fair).
|
I do drink coffee. A lot!
But i would still say go for coffee if i wasn't going to drink coffee! |
I usually have coffee anyway but there's been times where I've changed my mind when I've got there. But I'd still say go for a coffee
|
I think yes as long as you're going to a coffee shop type of place. If you were going somewhere like ... a restaurant or something it wouldn't make sense. So I can't say yes always, but it's not dependent on whether someone is actually drinking coffee. It's dependent on where you are going. So I can't really vote, alas.
|
Hm.
Initially I thought no, never. Then I thought well yes, maybe but only if someone was getting a coffee. Then I got confused so voted for both of those (and moar lesbianz) and then have since decided that as a non-coffee drinker I'd find it acceptable if someone else said "go for a coffee" but if I said it I'd probably say "go for a drink" but THEN realised that means something else too. *pulls out hair* |
Lol NP :P

I think we needed an 'All of the above and MOAR' option
|
I do say let's go for a coffee yet its rare I order a hot coffee lol

So real :crying: |
Thank you all for your contributions and poll enthusiasm! I so love it when we get involved in debating the big issues :P
Camden, I was meaning in a coffee shop and would go so far as to say that drinking coffee in a restaurant does not even constitute going for coffee! Np, sorry for any internal crisis caused by this poll! Who knew it would need a trigger warning o_O Also I brought this up at work and got a lot of support for staff and students alike! Aforementioned friend is now downplaying his interest in the whole situation and acting like he wasn’t that shocked, but less than five seconds later looked terrified and confused when someone explained why they agreed with me! |
You go and harvest the fruits of evil chaos now, Pi!!!! All the while you're laughing evilly into your chosen beverage. Chaos shall reign!!! Mwuahahahahaaaa!!!
|
Ah, okay so yes if it was just referring to coffee shop then my answer is yes always. But that was not specified so clearly I must have been overthinking it.
|
Yeah I'll say 'shall we grab a coffee at some point and catch up'
I don't care what we drink though. I just mean 'lets gather at an intended place for an intended purpose' because 'can we meet up to catch up' sounds very... Intense. Equally I'd be too lazy to type out 'shall we meet for a beverage of your choice and catch up'. The recipient would also think I was strange. |
No. I think I usually suggest a coffee shop, like, "do you want to go to Nero's/Pret/etc?". If it were my brother, who always drinks coffee, and I also plan on having a coffee, then I might suggest going "for a coffee". With you, Jenna, I'd be either suggesting Nero's or to "go for a hot beverage", as I know full well you're probably going to have a hot cho and it seems silly to be intentionally inaccurate.

UGH. How rude of you to not agree with me about everything Finn.
