Self harm urges

Hi, my name is Susie and I’m new to this website. I found it whilst searching for help with self harm urges.
In the past I would self harm a lot but for the past few months this has been a lot less and I haven’t harmed myself since mid November. Tonight I’m really struggling and have read through a lot of articles online on how to reduce the urges but nothing has really helped much. I’m think maybe some suggestions from people who have experienced this would be more helpful so if anybody could share some things that they find helps to get rid of or reduce the urge to self harm I would be really grateful :)

Sometimes I find reminding myself of the negative consequences of self harm works. Like going back into hospital, which I definitely don't want to do! Or upsetting my family. I also have a safety plan of numbers to call when the urges are too strong.

Distractions…. Create a list of things you enjoy or a list of things that you try to avoid because of how lost you get in them.

When you feel an urge start doing something from that list.

I do puzzles, colouring in, planning a trip, meal planning and then hunting for recipes

Physical things can be holding ice in your hand til you can hold it nomore, snapping elastic of your wrist.
Pinching your skin
Cold shower

I hope you find what works for you
