Discharge from section or informal patient advice please. Thank you.

Hello. Not sure if thread in correct place but please can people give me some advice regarding how to get a quicker discharge from hospital or put on informal please? I am thinking of calling a mental health advocate as well as asking on here but would like some suggestions.

I am not suicidal and have not been for years. I have been told by psychiatrist I may have mania without psychotic symptoms and have been given lithium treatment and an anti psychotic as well (sorry I hope I am not breaking any rules putting that).

But I am not psychotic or anything and I am not suicidal and I am keen to get back into work desperately.

Any suggestions would be great sorry to be so vague but it is difficult to type on my phone and it is very noisy in the hospital I am at.

I hope this is OK to post. If not then please if a moderator would just delete it. Sorry.
Thank you.

Hello!

A mental health advocate would be your best bet
And if you're on section 3 you can appeal the section and get a mental health lawyer
Sometimes it can be hard
In my last admission I was totally fine and they wouldn't let me go. Even though I was informal!
It really depends on the doctor

I wish you luck!

Thank you so much. I agree it depends on the doctor. Mine wants to keep me inside the hospital badly and for no apparent reason it seems. But yeah thank you for your response I think I am going to try an advocate thank you

Anyone else got any advice? Lol

If you disagree with the detention, you can appeal your section. Ask for a copy of your ‘132 rights’ (if you are in the UK) and speak to a mental health advocate as well. They will be able to talk you through the ways in which you can appeal your section.

Have you asked your team about what THEY feel needs to be different in order for you to get more leave or be discharged?

Recoveringmylife123 12-12-2021 06:57 PM

No offense but they periodically read us our rights and remind us of them. But I shouldn't be in hospital there is honestly nothing wrong with me. I am also not a danger to myself or others... But you know :/

And no I haven't will try asking thanks.

If there's nothing wrong with you, then why were you sectioned? And why are you posting on a mental health website?

If you can at least acknowledge you understand their point of view re keeping you in hospital and having sectioned you, even if you don't agree with it, that can go a long way towards showing you understand what is going on and are able to work with them.

I came here because it is a friendly community regarding mental health issues, having googled this arena. And no, I don't have mental health issues I did try and look at it from that perspective already though. Thank you anyway.

I wasn't trying to make you feel unwanted. It was a genuine question given saying there is nothing wrong with you and you don't have mental health issues doesn't tend to align with joining a website for mental health, or with being sectioned. That's a pretty big disconnect.

I hope you can communicate with your treatment providers to figure out the best way to move forward.

You did nothing wrong Camden. The reaction your reply received could maybe be something for the OP to examine- whether or not the medical team feel OP responds in a way that wouldn’t necessarily be expected.

OP, have you applied to tribunal or spoken to mental health advocates? They can support you in appealing your section.

Recoveringmylife123 17-02-2022 01:33 PM

Yes I have but no joy... I'm still under a section. The only things I need are to be discharged to my home and to get a job they are the only things I need to be honest.

And sorry for some of my posts here hope I didn't offend?
