Scars.. help.
 

Can you get scars that will never ever go? I don't know how long all of these have been here.. but I know it's about 5 months for some of them. I have cut over and over again in the same place. Are they ever going to go? I get triggered by my own arm. I havn't cut in ages, but seeing my own arm makes me want to. I can't even buy something to cover them up, I'm skint.
And before someone mentions bio oil.. I've tried it.

The scars will probably fade with time but if you have cut over and over in the same place it's likely that they will be there for a while.
I'd advise you to stick to the Bio-Oil, it will help and maybe experiment with some other scar reducing creams.
And if you get triggered by your arms maybe you could find some good foundation you can cover them with for now.

Scars take time to fade, some never go at all.
I've got scars i've had for 7years.
Best thing to do, is to carry on using the Bio Oil, twice a day because it will hopefully help to make them fade quicker.
Try to avoid looking at your arm, if you can't then, like Airlyeth said get some foundation to help hide them, or arm warmers (although, it's prolly a bit too hot to be wearing them this time of year)

I have one particularly bad scar, according to my GP if it's a keloid (very red and raised) it's unlikely that it'll fade completely on it's own, but you can have steroid injections (ouch, i know) to help.
& I agree that bio-oil is a good option, seems to work well for me.

I have a lot of hyper-trophic scars...they are the raised scars, yet not keloids....

Usually they retain their colour for about 5 years or so...then they fade to white...BUT they are still there, still raised, they are still noticable just not as noticable when they are that glaringly red-purple colour when they are "new" or under 5 years old.

These scars will stay with you for life...like a tattoo.

Scars can fade, flatten out etc but still they may not go away. The best chance you have for them fading etc is to start treating them as soon as, new scars seem to react better to treatment than older scars. just get something like bio oil, vitamin e cream etc and massage it into the scars, the more you do this the more chance of improvement. Bear in mind you won't see a sudden change, it will be gradual. Time also helps scars fade. But some scars will always be there, but treatment can reduce their appearence.

But the quick answer to your question, yes some scars will stay with you forever.

Does Bio-oil actually help then? i hate having scars, im going on holiday soon and my friends are always so annoying about them. are there any other ways to hide them?

Hannah, I didnt know about steroid injections, I have one keloid and I have been told it will never go, all my others have slowly faded but some of them have taken like ten months till they become white. Bio-oil will probably help spead this up though.

Does anyone know if Drs will refuse to help with scars if you still self harm?

Bio oil helps the condition of the skin, apparently it is more the massaging(sp!) that helps the scars. I think bio oil will help both colour and help flatten, but you have to use it for a long time etc for things to change. What I thought about doing if I was to start using bio oil was to take a photo of my scars before I started using it, so in say 3 months I would compare with the photo cause the change will be slow and you may not think anything is happening but in reality they may have improved a bit more than you realised...if that makes sence.

Sorry I can't give you first hand advice since I ahven't used bio oil in years and when I did it wasn't for long. I have just read a lot about these things.

Also it isn't too expencive for the oil - between £7 and £10 - plus apparently it lasts for ages as it is an oil so you don't need much! If you want your scars to improve, try these things and stick with them, don't expect miricals but the earlier you treat scars the more likely they will fade, but they may not fade completely....You just have to try!

give it time - 5 months isnt long - ive had bad scars on my arms and legs and all but after a while, they are all almost gone! try talking to youer doctor - i know someone who was in a similar suitation and got them removed/skin graft on the nhs

Hun, Scars take time to heal and to fade. Try some maderma or some vitamin E oil to put on your arms. You're not the only one who gets triggered from scars. Please Stay Safe. I wish I could have been of more help.

I agree with the advice on Bio Oil and vitamin E etc. Though due to a lack of money I opted for Tea Tree oil that I found in my house - there was an article on V2 about how it can help to fade scars. I only used it for a couple of weeks but it did help a little...the colour of the scars faded so that there are some that now are pratically white. Even some of my raised keloid scars faded in colour and flattened - but only a little. None of them have gone completely.

I think that can also depend on the person - diferent products will work for diferent skin types probably.
