Short Story [Boredom Breaker]

As she woke up, she yawned, pulling her long black hair into a pony tail she slipped out of bed and out her bedroom door. Creeping down the stairs, she avoided every step that she knew would creak, which wasn't easy, nearly all the stairs creaked, she jumped the last two steps, landing lightly on her feet. She looked up the stairs when she heard a door creak, hoping it wasn't her dad, she listened as the door stopped moving and everything went silent. She sighed and walked into the kitchen, grabbing a bowl and some cereal off the counter. She walked towards the table and sat down, poured her breakfast and ate it quickly. Leaving her bowl and cereal on the table she ran upstairs, still avoiding every step that she knew would creak, she rushed into her bedroom and shut the door, putting the latch on. It wasn't that she didn't trust her dad, just after everything that had happened the week before she wasn't sure if she could trust him in her room alone with her diary again. So she walked down town one day and came back with a lock. She left the door and got showered, washing her hair, looking down she watched as the suds slowly dissappeared down the plug hole, she smiled.

She got out the shower and rumaged through her wardrobe looking for something to wear. After 10 minutes of choosing, she picked her MCR top and her black skinny jeans, she slipped on her pink and black vans and quickly applied her eyeliner and mascara before grabbing her bag and walking out the door. She shut the front door as quietly as possible as not to wake her father, she ran around the corner of the street and waited at the bus stop. She pulled out her mp3 and turned MCR up as loud as possbile, she jumped when a hand grabbed her shoulder and pulled her around, she pulled out her earplugs when she realised who it was. "DAN!" she screamed as she hugged him tight. "WHOA! Lack of air Lan" she pulled her arms away and grinned. Lan, was her nickname, everyone else knows her as Lana, although she hates it. As the bus pulled up, Dan grabbed Lan's hand and dragged her onto the bus before it closed the doors. They sat at the back, as always. Dan and Lan had been seeing each other for the past 3 months, and so far everything was going great. Apart from the fact that Dan's best friend tried to sleep with Lan, but that's a different story. Lan hadn't told Dan about that. She didn't think it was a big deal, he was drunk and didn't really know what he was doing. Did he?

Now that Lan thought about it. She wasn't sure.

The bus pulled up outside the school entrance 5 minutes late. Mrs. C wasn't going to be happy, Lan laughed as she grabbed Dan's hand and pulled him off the bus. "Do we have too? I was getting comfy!" he maoned as she giggled and yanked him off. "You hate the bus seats love" she laughed as he pulled her in for a kiss. "Yeah, but I was with you" he grinned as Lan leaned fowards. "Hey guys!" a voice called from behind them, Lan pulled away and sighed as Gavin, Dan's best friend, walked up to them. "Hey Gav" they both said, Lan looked at her feet as Dan grinned and chatted away to Gav. Gav looked at Lan then back at Dan as she looked up. Her blue eyes shimmering in the sun. "I'm going in before Mrs C has my guts" she grinned as she walked away, "Hold up Lan!" the lads shouted as Dan and Gav walked up to her, Dan grabbed her hand as Gav walked next to her, she looked at him as he smiled at her, but she looked away. Gav continued to look at his feet from that point on. Dan looked at them both, slightly confused but shrugged it off. They all arrived to their class, the glare of Mrs C burning through the back of their heads. Dan and Lan sat at the back of the class and Gav sat infront of them.

"What's up?" Dan asked as Lan started doodling on her book. Lan looked at him, with a look of concern on her face. She really wanted to tell Dan what Gav tried to do, but she didn't want to ruin their friendship. She smiled and simply replied. "Nothing"

The bell finally rang for break and Lan couldn't get out of class quick enough. She'd had enough of Maths and English. She ran behind the gym into the field and sat underneath a tree. Pulling a ciggerette out from her pocket. "Damn it" she said to herself as she looked for her lighter, "Looking for this?" she looked round to see Gav walking towards her, with her lighter. "Yeah. Thanks" she said as she took it and lit her ciggerette, there was silence before Gav decided to speak. "Can I sit down?" he looked abit worried actually. "Yeah. It's a free country" Lan replied as she took a draw from her ciggerette, looking up at the sky as she slowly watched the puffs of smoke dissappear. "About what happened last time" Gav started talking, Lan could tell the awkward silence was a threat to him. "What about it?" Lan asked, pretending everything was fine. "What happened. It was a mistake" Lan stopped him right there. "Yeah it was. You were drunk. I stopped you. Relax" she paused watching the smoke dissappear again. "Good. So..." Gav started saying, a look of worry on his face. "Listen." Lan interrupted again. "I haven't told Dan. And I'm not going to okay" Gav grinned. "Thanks Lan" he said as he hugged her. She pulled a face and struggled free. "I'm not doing it to save your ass. I'm doing cause I'm saving your god damn friendship" Gav shot back a confused look as Lan threw her ciggerette away and stood up. Putting her lighter back in her pocket she started to slowly walk back towards the school. Just in time for Drama. Oh fun.
