Posting 'reported' on threads

Hi everyone,

We have noticed there are members who are posting 'reported' on threads they believe are spam. While it is very helpful for us to receive your post reports, please don't post to say you have reported it as it doesn't promote a friendly and inviting atmosphere that we aim to create and goes against our ethos that all misdemeanours get dealt with in private and off the public boards. If the post is genuine, the thread starter might find this kind of reply distressing.

I hope this makes sense :) Thanks everyone as always for your reports and everlasting patience with us while we are running on a limited mod team!

Thanks for the note Ali. If there's anything I can do to help the team or whatever then let me know.

Thank you for clarifying :)

It has been bugging me to see people do that (mostly because I don't see the point). Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's unhelpful.

I think it was well-intentioned, aiming to let others know that they don't need to bother reporting it, but yes, not a great welcome if someone was a genuine poster!

That didn't occur to me as I don't really see a downside to several people reporting the same post. But obviously if people felt it would increase productivity and preserve resources I obviously support that as that is the true German spirit after all :P

How do you currently appropriate highlight a questionable post to moderators?
Saw one today, but really don't want to message persons who are no longer moderators.

Pi.R^2 18-11-2018 08:48 AM

Post report it please!

THIS IS A VIRUS LINK ON EATING DISORDERS SUPPORT. IT IS MIMICKING A RYL LINK AND NOT SHOWING UP IN THE MAIN THREAD ***URGENT

bitomato, when you go to the post you're worried about press the report button which should be underneath the username.

not_so_insig 20-11-2018 02:25 PM

If it's anything like the one in SI discussion then you can't report it but it shows up.

one_step_closer 20-11-2018 03:52 PM

I think that means it has been deleted or moved to a mod board but is taking some time to 'disappear' fully from the public boards.

tiptoes 20-11-2018 07:18 PM

I wasn't aware there were posts that you couldn't report! Interesting, would you mind reporting a post that can be reported with a link to the non reportable posts and note why you are reporting it we can have a look into it.

Thanks

(It might make sense to use this one)

one_step_closer 20-11-2018 07:30 PM

I think this is what Dawn was meaning. The forum overview shows a spam thread in SI discussion but it doesn't exist when you click on it. If you go into the board the thread isn't there at all.

Pi.R^2 20-11-2018 08:41 PM

Ooh, strange! I deleted that spam but in a different way to usual so maybe that’s why it’s half visible? Although it’s from several days ago not today so it’s weird that it’s showing up as today!

I’ll go delete it the other way and see if that fixes it!

Pi.R^2 20-11-2018 08:43 PM

Right, that’s fixed it as far as i can see?
Note to self: move off the boards and don’t soft delete!

not_so_insig 20-11-2018 11:37 PM

Yes that's what I meant. It's gone now thanks Jenna.

not_so_insig 22-11-2018 02:48 PM

Another chinese spam link is showing up in serious.

Aubergine 22-11-2018 04:09 PM

Hmm. I moved it off of the boards, but it's still showing up even though you can't go into the thread. Hopefully it'll rectify itself.
