Flupenthixol depot injection- any experiences?
I really struggle with taking my anti psychotic (aripiprazole) and I raised the idea of a depot, my CPN thinks it's a good idea and is going to suggest this to the psychiatrist. I've had no experience with it or depot injections at all, can anyone give me any personal experiences?

I've been on maybe three depots so I can't remember a lot about the specifics of Flupentixol. I think that was one I had to come off because my prolactin levels ended up being raised above a safe level but I had no other problems that I can remember and it affects people differently. What makes you struggle to take your tablets? Depot injections take the pressure off remembering to take tablets and remove the risk of overdose.

I haven't overdosed in about 12 years. I struggle taking my aripiprazole with the thinking if I do t take it, then I'll go high and feel happy and joyful as I have before. And then I forget about the anxiety and paranoia that accompany a it. So I'm on off with it all the time. Or I start taking it and my suicidal thoughts increase and I stop. Or I feel a bit crap and stop my anti depressant as a form of self harm or something. But I can't see the psychiatrist until the 31st, and in the meantime I have children and a job to be functional at whilst melting down inside.

If things are really difficult would your CPN be able to speak to your psychiatrist or could you talk to your psychiatrist on the phone?

Yes I'm seeing my CPN on Friday and she's going to see what she can do before then. Thanks x

Hi Wellingtons
I'm on Clopixol depot & that works well for me as when things get difficult I struggle to take medication You can get Aripiprazole as a depot injection I hope your cpn speaks to your psych |
I'm on Paliperidone depot. I was talked into having a depot and all the benefits. I found now that they won't let me go back onto oral meds. I stuck on the depot.

^^So much this.
I was threatened to go on the depot 4 years ago. They put me on Flupenthixol or Depixol when I made the decision to stop my oral meds when I was in IP. Since being on the depot 4 years ago, every appointment with my psych or CPN or even my GP or anyone who listens I've told them I want to come of it. With my last team (early intervention) they said if I was stable, took some time and was stable for a year and a half, asked them again they said speak to my new team (I was in the process of being transferred) I spoke to my new team and they said they don't know me and because I relapsed they said no. It's been a year since I was transferred and they are still saying because I'm ****ing new they won't let me come off it. Basically I have no choice. If you come on the depot you won't come off, well, that's the way it is for me. |
Also, if you're comfortable being injected in your arse either fortnightly, 3 weekly or 4 weekly, go for it. The side effects are horrendous but I suppose you get that with every anti psychotic.
