Electric like shock through brain and body
 

Sorry to make another FA thread but I can't ignore this any longer and I don't see my Dr for another week or two.

Basically the past month I've been getting this electric shock type feeling in my brain and it extends down my body (usually the right side) to my feet. It is over in an instant but leaves me feeling dizzy. It happened just now and I fell down the stairs. (I'm fine.)

I've had no change in medication recently and I've been taking it again properly for like a week or so.

I'm not eating great right now but this started before the decline in my eating.

Any idea what this could be? Dr Google isn't helpful.

It's really getting to me.

I haven't heard of anything like that. Is it the same kind of shock you get sometimes as you're drifting off to sleep that jolts you awake or different?

I wonder if you could bring your GP appointment forward?

Can't - I was lucky to even get this appointment. You have to book 3 weeks in advance.

No, not like that. Like neurons in my brain are firing all at once and sort of spike at me. It's hard to explain. It feels a bit like what I imagine a seizure would feel like but it's so short it can't be that. So I don't know what it is.

I'll def mention it to my GP when I see her but I thought I'd try and get opinions to tide m over until I see her.

Sounds like brain zaps, lots of peeps get them when they first start taking meds or if they mess around with them, it's like a massive shock or zap in your head that lasts for a second or two. Sertraline or zoloft was one of the worst culprits. It should stop after a while and settle down. Hope this is some use!

Call NHS Direct and find out if you need to go to A&E or if it can wait until your appointment.

What about calling your GP surgery in the morning to get seen by the duty doc? Your surgery offers that (unless I am very much mistaken in which case I agree with Lana!)

I'm call my GP surgery tomorrow and ask to speak to the duty doctor on call over the phone. That way I'm not wasting appointment time.

I jade a similar thing and needed an mri. It turned out I had nerve damage in my spine.
I was prescribed amatryptaline for a while and it resolved over time.
Hope you manage to get it sorted at the gp today

Probably not that helpful but I get this if I drink too much coffee. The first time it started happening was due to a medication.
I thought it was a seizure sign at first but no seizure followed and my neurologist said he hadn't heard of it before.

I've not been drinking any more caffeine than usual.

Saw the GP she was lovely but not very helpful. Apparently its 'one of those things that we don't know what causes it' and to 'come back if it gets worse'.

So who knows.

I got brain zaps when I stopped one of my medications suddenly. After I'd started taking it again properly for a few weeks it went away!
