did i screw up???

i recently sent a letter to my shrink telling her about what happened when i was little. I was left alone all the the time, then when my parents were around they hit me and told me i was worthless. then when i was 6,my dad started.....hurting me.....can't even type it! I thought the letter was good idea but now i don't i hate he but i don't want to ruin my families lives!

WHAT DO I DO!?!?!?

There are probably doctor-patient confidentiality laws that say your shrink can't tell anyone about the letter if you don't want her to. So your family should be okay, I think. It's good that you felt comfortable enough to tell her about the abuse and neglect, it will help her know better how to treat you. Personally, I think that was a very brave thing that you did. Well I hope everything works out okay for you. *hugs*

So long as you're over 16, what ever you tell your doctor should be confidential between yourself and the doctor. So especially if you tell him that your parents aren't to find out, then there's no reason for your family to know about it.

You've done the right thing though hun. It was a very brave decision to make, but one that's going to be very beneficial in the long run. I just hope that you're doctor is good enough to help you through your recovery.

*hugs*
Take care

First off, depending where you are, there are confidentiality laws depending on your age. Though normally, all you have to say is 'I don't want it known outside of you and me.' and they will agree to it. After all, it would help treat you better and it shows that you trust them to be willing to let them into such a sensitive part of your life.

Letters are good ideas though when it comes to these things, I mean, you can word things to where names or clues to who did it are removed and such ((I did that)). And you can be careful with just how much you let out in case you want to keep some things to yourself.

Sweetie, for start you did NOT screw up
I don't know much about confidentiality laws
but even if it did come to that you have not ruined your family they would have for doing that to you because you didn't deserve it

it was a really brave thing to do and you should be proud of yourself for making that step

take care hun and if you ever want a chat you know where I am
