Mono and depression *suicidal trigger*
 

I was doing really good with my depression on medication until about three weeks ago. This week I got really sick and found out it is mono. The depression is even worse now and I don't want to live feeling sick and depressed. Normally I love my job but I can't handle it with the mono which is making me lose hope and purpose. Anyone else experience this when sick, especially with mono? I was doing so good before all this and I don't know what to do. Mono can last months and I don't see how I can make it that long.

Ill health can cause mental ill health too, especially if it is an illness like mono where you quite fatigue with it.

Do you think you could speak to the person that prescribed your depression medication? They might be able to suggest options to help you through this period of ill health.

I'm going to call the psychiatrist tomorrow. After a weekend of being confined to bed because of mono, I'm losing hope.

I had mono in nigh school. I was on the verge of breaking a bunch of swimming records and I ended-up in bed instead lol. Just laying my head down was painful. The worst of it lasted about a month.

Just for sake of being comprehensive in UK "mono" is called "glandular fever"

How did you deal with a month of it? Also I wasn't aware of the term difference, but thank you! Glandular fever makes so much more sense than "mononucleosis."

I didn't do anything special. I just took things day by day. I wasn't mad about it and I didn't worry about it. I wasn't aware of the lingering effects some people could have so I just assumed I would get better in a few weeks. I was doing a lot of sports so I wasn't too upset about the physical suffering (used to it). Now I would eat a lot of wheat bran and others anti-viral things

I'm not sure I like one name over another but I know if you search forum for posts here you probably find more under glandular fever. Adding GF to title might also get more replies form peeps who been down that road lol. Being from US I used to read posts about that but didn't know it was mono. Took me awhile to spot the terms.
