No More Crying on Zoloft?
So a week yesterday I started my first medication, Zoloft. I'm taking it for OCD. I've noticed that I haven't cried or felt like crying at all since I started, which is strange. I usually cry a lot, usually at least every few days, just because I'm a really emotional person. But I haven't cried since last Tuesday (day before I started) or felt super emotional about anything, AND I'm pms-ing! I can still feel emotion like happiness and sadness, etc., but I feel more evened out, I guess. I just haven't had the urge to cry or SH or punch anything at all (even when I feel I could have). But the thing is, I haven't been diagnosed with anything other than OCD, no emotional issues whatsoever. Plus Zoloft isn't supposed to help anything for a few weeks. So is this some kind of weird effect of the medication, or just a coincidence?

Feeling a little bit removed from your emotions or slightly numb is quite a common side effect of many anti-depressants, but it often settles off after a few weeks. People often find this distance helps them to process things or focus on therapy better because they're not so sad or worried all the time. Side effects often settle a bit after a few weeks, but if you're really worried you can always speak to your doctor again to see if there are any alternatives for you.
Long story short, it's probably a side effect and it's quite common! It's always best to confirm things with your doctor to put your mind at rest though as this site can't replace the advice of a medical professional. Take care - I hope it's a helpful medication for you in the long run :) |
Thank you :)
