Calling a helpline potential trigger warning
 

Hi,

I'm under CMHT and have weekly therapy and CPA's every few weeks. I'm also on the waiting list for a support worker.
I'm feeling really really low at the moment.

My therapist told me today of a r*** helpline number which staffs counsellors on the phone lines every Thursday evenings between 7.30-9. She gave me the number and urged me to try and give them a call tomorrow.

Has anyone had any experience of ringing something like this?

I've not had experience of calling a specific helpline like you mentioned, but I've called the Samaritans several times in the past. I had mixed experiences but in general they were very helpful in a very difficult time. Hopefully someone who has got more specific experience will be able to help more xxx

I have had experience with this type of helpline, and for the most part have found it very helpful.

I have often become anxious when calling and told them I am unsure what to say and they have helped me get started.

I would definitely suggest you give it a go.

The only thing I would say if you find one worker unhelpful for any reason, it's worth trying again a different time as everyone finds different people and techniques helpful.

If t helps to take it through with a complete stranger then speak to them as soon as you can, but remember if you don't want to talkt to them about the triggering subject then don't force yourself if you are not ready.
