When is an informal admission not one?!

Hi everyone,

I've been an inpatient on a general mental health ward since 22nd November but my consultant decided to let my section 2 lapse just before Xmas as she felt that being on a section 3 was too restrictive. She also knows that she couldn't uphold a section 3 due to not having a treatment plan as the ward is not equipt to treat an ed!

I am currently being encouraged to have ensures and try to eat but I am finding this extremely hard. I feel im going round in circles and this would be my second admission in 6 months!!! I am really trying and want to get better but feel that things aren't changing and are getting worse. I wanted to be discharged today but the nurse in charge wouldn't let me go so I've got to stay to see the team in the morning( which is frustrating!) i don't really know what I should do next but I know this cannot go on forever. Any suggestions?!!!

Hi

Have a look at the deprivation of liberty act. If you aren't on a section you are legally allowed to leave the ward. If they feel this is not safe they can section you.

That said maybe it's time to talk to them and see if you can come up with an appropriate care plan?

Hi

I will have a look into your suggested reading. I spoke to the staff grade dr today but it was futile. I was told that I have a review tomorrow and I think that they will formulate a plan from there and the Ed consultant and local es unit have been corresponding at length so maybe I might find out what those discussions mean. I just feel so overwhelmed at the moment, I don't know what to do or say that will give the team the idea that I DO want to get better and will do whatever it takes to get there.

I will update you tomorrow with the outcome but I did ask if a staff member could sit in the meeting with me so I don't feel too stressed out about the whole thing xxx

Can you be transferred to an eating disorders unit ? X

Hi everyone,

My review didn't go too well but at least my consultant agrees that I should be re referred to the local eating disorder unit for assessment. She disagrees with the community ed consultants view that my ed is mainly due to my eupd. This means that I'm no further forward in knowing where I go next so I will just have to wait and see. She did say that I won't be in hospital that much longer as the local ed unit can asses me even if I'm discharged. I really don't know what to make of all this but trying not to cry!!! I'm in a+e coz I've got stomach cramps and nothing is staying down or seems to be absorbed. I'm not with staff as I'm informal so all on my own and feeling rather anxious
